DIRT TRACK RACING RACE PROCEDURES

The purpose of this thread is 2 talk about some race procedures.  One of the
things that is most important about racing is that its timely.  Our Goal at
DASCAR is to be able to accommodate 50 drivers initially. Than we can
lobby with wizard works and ratbags for more racing slots.  10 is certainly
a
limitation, but we can deal with it.  Would be better with 16, 20 or 24.
I'm sure that if Papyrus can do 32 lag free, Ratbag can also do in
future versions.  Oh well.. Here are my thoughts. again its must be
timely. Another goal we have is that we can run the entire event in
less than 1 1/2 hours.  Also we don't necessarily see a large increase in
time if we go to 100 Drivers.  So lets talk about 50 drivers.

1).    There will be no qualifying.  We will have a program that will
randomly
assign you to a heat.

2).    The heats would be 25 laps.  I want to have enough laps to let the
fast guys come from the back without it turning into a crash fest.

3).    The drivers will be split into 5 groups of 10 or prorated....

4).    The winners of the 5 Heats will transfer directly into the A Main.

5).    The 2nd Place Drivers would transfer to the B Main

6).    The 3rd Place Drivers would transfer to the C Main

7).    The 4th Place Drivers would transfer to the D Main.

So what have we accomplished.  We have 20 of the 50 drivers that
have a place in the A, B, C, and D mains and we have 30 drivers that
still want to make the show.  So now we have a series of loser bracket or
last chance races..
==============================================
Now the task is to pair down 30 drivers to get 5 transfer to fill out the
D Main.  Any suggestions along the way are fine.. Just jump in here.. hehe

I would than recommend that we have 5 heats of 6 or so and take the
winner of each race for the D Main.  When you combine the 5 winners
of the Last chance race, and than take the 5 drivers of the D main that
got there from there 4th place finish.  PRESTO.. We have 10 drivers for
the D Main.  Now we also know that only 5 drivers or the TOP 5 from
the D main will transfer to the C.  Here in the C Main we will repeat that
again.  Taking the transfers and combining them with the transfer from
the heats for B as well.   So than we run the B and we transfer 5 drivers
to the A Main or Feature.   Now we have 10 drivers and this race will be
99 laps.

Now I just knocked this out and it might be seriously flawed.  Yes we will
have
to have computer software to pre-assign you to the heats, keep attract of
the winners and automate this entire process.  Once the ODRT software
assigns you.  It will than watch the racing servers for your event and the
results.  It will than know what to do and assign you where to race.  You
will
be given web pages to monitor and possible instructions  as where to race.
Now
the race admins will be seeing the same as you .  You may be require to
change
you handle to group you into the next main or heats or elimination race.  I
can
tell you that its gonna be tricky. In real life its would be a breeze, but
for a
computer program to do this is gonna be great.. We are blessed with Paul
Graham
who has supported us at WHRA and can do these kind of things.  I can also
tell you that if you don't follow the instructions, exactly you will and can
be DQ'ed.
The number 1 problem we have ever had in racing is people not using the
correct
handle in KALI or in the Game.  You don't use the right handle and you don't
get
scored.  If you win and don't use the right handle.  Your HISTORY, because
its
all binary and the puter don't cut you no slack!!!

Well these are my thoughts and I will send them on to RATBAG for DTR II
automated scoring consideration.  If DTR allows us to run more drivers this
task
becomes alot alot alot easier..

Please email me your comments or post them here so we have a discussions..

This is pretty close to the race procedure we will use at DASCAR using
Private servers and KALI....

if you are gonna run 25 lap intiial heat races, you might want to consider
running like 12 or 15 lap last chance races.  25 lappers, are quite abit of
laps for dirt heat races.  The only other concern I would have is the 99 lap
feature.  Wow, thats an incredible amount of laps for a dirt car, not even
sure if you could get the tires to last that long.  but, on the other hand,
it sure would put a premium on setup ability.  Wooohooo, cant wait to get
started.

Billy:

1).    Sure the tires will last 99 laps.. you can always use the hard
compound.
2).    As far as the number of laps, 99 laps at oldero would take about 18
minutes of intense racing.. hehe.. you can handle that...
3).    This is just a format that others can try, but we are looking
primarily at
True Pro Level drivers, ie, if you was racing Oldero with us we would
expect a max ET cut off, of about 15.50.  The fastest driver I have seen
runs
15.10 and that is HT.  I have cut some 15.24 so how hard could it be.  We
will have minium requirements as per et to qualify for DASCAR.  We are
trying to keep all parties fast and stay away from lappers.  We will link to
other novice level leagues..
4).    We do have a last chance.  That was where the 30 drivers went into
5 heats of 6 last chance, where the last 4 transfered to our D main...
5).  I know the 25 laps is a bit much, but I would rather have extra laps
so there is less of a tendancy to crash and burn others...

All Good Points, its just our model and we are tweaking this already with
some comments from TODD Carpenter..
