N4 FFB Settings

Hey M5Brian (in MO) its HB from BHMS forums, hehe small world...anyway. I
haven't used FF in some time since getting my Thomas, but with my LWFF I had
to basically crank everything way up to get any feedback, then started
tweaking down from there to find a comfort zone. My personal advice would be
to turn on the centering force and run w/o feedback, LOL but I am biased.
All kidding aside, N4 was never very solid in the FF to me and I would
simply get it to where you can barely "feel" any extraneous forces, just so
you know its there, then crank up the linearity so your sensitivity is just
right and you can catch the spin outs before they occur. I think adding too
much feedback will having you fighting the car more than you should, so keep
it light (lower effects) and sensitive (higher linearity). It may seem hard
to drive that way at first, but as you get used to it, you will likely find
yourself out cornering more folks than not. We have to remember that these
cars have pretty strong power steering nowadays.

Glad to hear you scored a LWMomo! One of my guys (in my league) has one,
another has one on order. They are apparently nice wheels indeed.

With FF latency is critical value, IMHO. Force and damping
you can set however you like the best, but for latency there is only
one right setting.
I set my setting driving GPL. How? Just drive like a madman.
With wromg setting you will end up out of the road whenever you
slam on gas. With right setting you will manage to save it and stay
on the road even when you drive very hard. You can try the same
technic with N4 but it's easier with GPL.
For normal LWFF wheel right setting is 20ms, but every
model of wheel has diferent setting.
It is very inportant to set it just right. If I set my wheel wrongly
(19ms or 21ms ) I lose control of my car and therefore am slower.
Incorect latency satting is probably the reason why old dogs of racing
, who had good times before FF came, didn't like FF. They noticed
their times worsen but didn't knew why.
Regarding force and damping, I like them been equal (100% in
N4).

Oops. It looks like for N4 the correct setting with LWFF
is 21ms. Try it on tracks with lot of sliding (New Hampshire ).
Maybe I'm wrong again, maybe my driving stile has
changed, maybe I become a better driver, maybe electronics
inside changed through years, maybe I was wrong in the first
place, who knows.
