GP2 questions

Hi,

I am new to GP2 and would like to ask the community some questions.
I play on a laptop :-/ but it works apart from some small details,
first the picture does not fill up the whole XGA display, even if I
change Windows to  800x600, do I need to change the DOS window somehow
? Sorry I am a UNIX user and use Windoze just for GP2 :-)

secondly I use a IBM 570 which has a crystal sound fusion chip (I
think) is there anyway I can get sound going ?

thirdly, if I start GP2 from windows the f1 and f2 don't work but it's
OK from DOS. Ideas ?

Finally in the manual (page 33) they talk of a demo mode, it says
"deselecting all drivers then entering any driving or race mode" what
does it mean deselecting all drivers ? or if someone can suggest step
by step how to do it I would be grateful.

Thanks alot

Only in***pitview you get full screen graphics, all the others are in a
'wide screen' look.

When you play this game you have selected a driver in the.... driver
selection menu!
When you deselect all drivers, you can still start a grandprix but you wont
be in it, you can just watch.
Selecting and deselcting a driver is done by clicking on the button below
the drivers helmet in the
drivers selection menu.

What he's referring to is the black borders around the image.  GP2 runs in
VGA resolution (gasp!) which is 640x480.  As you said, your LCD screen is
1024x768.  Those are 1024x768 actual physical pixels, unlike a CRT which can
paint any resolution it wants up to its maximum.  If you display a VGA
program, is uses the middle 640x480 pixels.  There are some options.  On
notebooks with the ATI chipset, "stretching" of the image is done by
doubling up some pixels, then throwing in some anti-aliasing to smooth out
the result.  Unfortunately the TP uses a NeoMagic chip.  Perhaps the
NeoMagic chip has a possibility for screen stretching.  If you post a
message on comp.sys.laptops, specifically asking how to enable
screen-stretching on a TP-570 under Windows 98, you will probably get a
speedy answer.  On my old Extensa notebook, I use a DOS utility to expand
the screen, but this only works for the specific video chip that I have.

Right! Sorry I did not make myself clear, thanks stephen for the reply
and clarification. I'll do a search first, should be somewhere and
then try a post. It's a group I don't read (er, maybe I should :-/).

Thanks again.

Well, I have finally got GP2 and switched over from my PlayStation Game.  It
looks great, but I am having a terrible time figuring out the game.  I know
my way around the menus.  However, I cannot accelerate, or turn.  I have
set-up the keyboard properly and installed one keyboard driver, but it still
doesn't work.  The keyboard is working.  I can hear the car accelerate, but
it doesn't go.  And yes, I tried gear changes, even put them on auto.  You
realize that if I don't fix this problem, I will be ranting and raving about
the PSX game for a long time . . .

Keyboard driver???

Jut select "keyboard" as control method, and after this you can only
use these keys to drive (not configurable)

(assuming AZERTY keyboard here)

'Q' = accelerate
'W' = brake
':' = right
';' = left
'SPACEBAR' + 'Q' = gear up
'SPACEBAR' (+'W')= gear down

Becomes like second nature after a while.
