Alexander,
It is a little bad manners to post to a newsgroup & then expect a
personal response. Hence, I have _not_ emailed this to you.
This topic has also been featured several times over the last three
weeks so the answer could easily be found by looking at past posts
either in the group or, if your ISP doesn't keep posts for long, on
Deja News.
Anyway, the answer to your question is that there are 7 sets of tyres
(the three shown initially as "0", "r1", "r2", "r3" and "r4"). You can
use any of the seven sets for practice / qualifying - they are all of
the same type since special qualifying tyres were banned a while ago.
The difference is that in the actual race, you will start off with the
set "r1". When you make your first pit stop it will change to the "r2"
set & so on. Once you have used all 4 of the race tyres the program
will automatically select the set with the least wear.
If I am to do a lot of practice laps, I will generally use one of the
non-race tyres and possibly the second one. I will then use the second
and third non-race tyres for qualifying and will probably use some (or
even all) of the "race" tyres if I need a fresh set for a really quick
lap - but no more than two or three laps on the race tyres - after all
I will want them to be reasonably fresh for the race <g>
Of course, if you only plan to make two stops, you can use the "r4"
tyre to your heart's content during practice & qualifying.
BTW, to switch between the race & non-race tyres just use the brake /
accelerator. Once you have used a tyre, the number of laps that have
been run with that tyre will be shown instead of the "0" or "r4" or
whatever.
Hope this helps & that you continue to read r.a.s - you will find a
lot of other useful info to help you enjoy GP2 to the fullest.
