N2: Charlotte qualifying set up

  I'm having trouble getting a good qualifying set-up for C***te.  I'm
running 80 degrees, no wind, night race, Chevrolet.
I can't seem to get the car to turn down into Turn 1.  I start out with the
basic qualifying set-up from the sim, then I take about 10lbs of wedge out,
and shorten fourth gear to a 3.80.  I've tried softening the RF shock
anywhere from 5 to 15%, but then it pushes more.  So I went back the other
way, and it's too loose in Turns 3 and 4.
Around 3 and 4, I can run 170-172, hit about 192 down the front stretch, but
then I have to slow WAY down to get around 1 and 2.  My best qualifying lap is
only like about 177 or so.
C***te seems to be one of those tracks wheer you can get around one end
pretty good, but then you can't get around the other end (kinda like
Darlington...<g>).
  Any help is appreciated.

Try this site for some really good setups.

C***te is one of those tracks where the turns are very different. Keep
in mind that the front straight is a lot longer than the back straight, and
you carry a lot more speed into Turn 1 than you do Turn 3.

A couple of suggestions, move some more weight back to free up the front
end. You will probably also need to play with the LR/RR shock/tire pressure
to keep the back end from kicking out on you as you exit T2. Second, drive
into T1 a little high and sweep down as you go through T2. You'll get a
better run off the corner by straightening out the exit.

For qualifying, you can probably get away with a lift and using the wheel
to slow the car down, though I usually brake as well. For race setup, you
should definitely use the brakes, or you'll burn the RF before too long.

I agree.  Use Joe Farr's setups and some of the others on the IVGA.
I tried his and can almost always get a 178.5.

I run 180-181 during a race.  I wish I had a T2, so I can get some btter
times. :)

Dave,

I have had NO luck whatsoever with Sierra Tech support on this.  I know
you've done a lot of Multiplayer racing and know a lot of people.  Have
you seen this? :

Here is what I sent them and posted here:
====================================================================

Support,

I have been using N2 and a Cardinal Voice/Speakerphone modem with
my friend for quite some time.  This setup works great.  We can talk
to each other while we drive.  No headphones or headsets needed, just
speak into the mic attached to the modem and walla.

We have always connected with a Latency of .10.  We race C***te
and Tally with 35 cars.  We have NEVER received any lag or glitches
while racing.

We applied the new patches from Papyrus.  Now when we connect, we get
the same latency.  When we race it goes fine for about 5 laps.  Then
The CALLER's AI cars disappear for a few seconds, then come back.
The AI starts jumping all over the track.  They appear in the pits, on
the grass, on the track.  Now imagine 34 cars appearing wherever they
want!  Car parts and smoke are all over the place and the spotter is
constantly yelling about the wreck, which you can't see of course.

The info screen (F2) would scroll and jump about like crazy!  The car
positions would change every second.

The scenario for Tally was much less dramatic, but the same results.

Does anyone have any IDEA on what causes this?  It worked great before
the patch and lousy after.  Can this be fixed or do I have to go back to
the original version of Nascar2?

It sounds like you're losing the modem connection periodically, and then
the program recovers. I'm not sure why the patch would change that, but it
sure seems like it must have given your previous experience.

Unfortunately, I've been too busy since the 1st patch came out to even try
multiplayer, so I can't even say whether it works for me or not. I'll see
if I can get a modem session going with Randy over the weekend and let you
know how it goes.

Lannie,

Just to follow-up on this, Randy and I ran a few modem races in N2 over the
weekend, using our USR Sportster DSVD modems. We ran into one problem where
somehow one of the 2 patches on my machine hadn't installed properly. After
doing a fresh install of N2 and then re-installing both patches, we ran
Sears Point, and then C***te, and everything worked perfectly.
