vsync and d3d

there have been several posts indicating that if you turn off vsync on your
graphics card, that you will see a significant boost in fps in n4. my
question is, how do you turn it off if you run d3d (i have a voodoo5 card)?
is there a util or something since it doesn't show up in the voodoo control
panel. if so, anybody have a link to it? thx in advance.

In order to have "disable VSYNC" available in D3D, you must install the
"coolbits" registry hack available at:

http://www.3dchipset.com/utilities/nvidia/files/coolbits.reg

Save the file to a folder and double click on it.

You should then have a V-Sync option in your "More Direct3D" display
setting.   Set it to "Always Off".

Eric Busch of Papyrus posted the above earlier.  I have done this and it
works no problem.

err... the coolbits is for nVidia cards. The original poster had a 3dfx
Voodoo.

You should be able to find a program called overclock.
It gives you an overclocking tab in your V5 display properties.
In this tab you can overclock and chip and also disable VSYNC for
both OpenGL and D3D.
Try www.3dfiles.com , in the Utilities section.

This is if you are running the reference drivers.

In many cases, manufacturer specific drivers (i.e. Creative/BlasterControl)
has all of this already enabled, and I've had CoolBits actually cause
problems with some of these drivers.

Got this file myself but have to say that I haven't noticed any real
fps improvements sorry to say...
