How do I set vsync in nVidia GeForce 2 MX with TV Out?

by DaytonaBo.. » Tue, 05 Feb 2002 15:06:25

Hi:

I am trying to boost my fps in NASCAR 4 above 30 and am told that
turning off vsync would help. I cant seem to find that switch in the
video card interface or in N4. Does anyone running this card know
where it is? And my driver version is 1.5.2.0 . Do I need to update
it?

Btw, I am running a Dell 1.6 Gightz 512 RAM and the nVidia GeForce 2
MX with TV Out. I am running OpenGL and the 30 fps I am getting is in
testing or race. I am running at Daytona with a 43 car field.

Settings as follows:

1024x768x32 rez

World Detail %75
Drawing distance %50
In mirror %25

I am drawing all oppents ahead and in the mirror ( hey, I like it to
look real ).

All the options on the right are checked except specular highlights (
Is that some sort of Best of... clip of OB/GYN's ?)

Anyone else with a similar system getting better rates?

I would appreciate any tips. Thanks

Biz

Your settings are a little bit optimistic for that video card.  But go to display properties, and
then choose the Geforce 2 MX tab and then additional properties, there should then be an OpenGL tab,
and its listed right there.

Best way?  increase your refresh rate to the maximum it will do for your
monitor.  Once you have that, it'll look a whole lot better and faster
because everything will be in sync.

I would also switch to 16 bit color.

How do I set vsync in nVidia GeForce 2 MX with TV Out?

Thanks for the reply, Biz. I looked where yousaid and the OpenGl
settings are not there, only the Anti-alaising controls. Any other
suggestions?

Also, even though this PC is less than six weeks old, I might consider
replacing th video card if it would help the frame rate. I saw in
Maximum PC that it was rated only a 5 due in part to the video card.
Can you suggest a decent card I could get to handle N4?

Thanks!

Download the latest drivers and the additional properties should be there to
allow you to turn off Vsync.  Think I'm using the uncertified 27.20.

The only thing wrong with the Geforce card that you have is that it's the MX
version.  These are not bad cards, but are not dis-simliar to Celron and
Durons chips, in that they are a cut down version of the original.  A cheap,
but great card, would be the GeForce 2 card Pro  - this is the one with 64MB
of memory.  However, GoForce 3 cards are also coming down in price too and
have some nice new features that games are just starting to take advantage
of.

Cheers,
Paul T

Alot of your problem is in your video settings. For one drop back to 16 bit
color. you may need to change your desktop settings to get 16 bit color as
an option. Second there is no need to draw 43 cars in the mirror. You'll
never see that many and its forcing alot of extra work to be done. I have a
buddy with a 1.4 AMD T-bird, 512 meg DDR ram, and a Gainward GFMX twin view
card and he runs in the 30fps range in traffic. At those settings.

As far as were to turn off vsync goes if you can't find it in the driver
properties get a tweak program to set it. For example Nvmax or Geforce
tweaker.
