Please help.

Configuration:

 AMD 900
128 mb PC-100
Voodoo 3 2000
SB live value
MB Asus A7V

GPL 1,2,0,1
Frame rate fine ( >30) but choppy.
In resolutions less than 1280x1024 everything is OK.

1280x1024 is pushing it for a V3 2000.  You'll need to upgrade you graphics
card to get better performance at this resolution.

Alternatively, if you have good cooling and are willing to take a risk, you
can try overclocking the V3.  There are plenty of utilities available to
help you do this.  Look at http://www.tweakfiles.com/video/ if you want to
try some.

Bump the speed up in *small* increments, and test thoroughly at each new
level.  It might work fine for 5 minutes, but you *really* don't want the
machine crashing just as you are about to cross the line at the end of a
long race......

Maybe your expecting to much but you should check the following things out.

1. On an A7V make sure your SBlive card is in slot 3. Slot 3 is the only PCI
slot
that doesn't share an interrupt with another slot. You may have to go
into the Bios
and set PCI slot 3 to whatever interrupt is available. You can look at
you current
interrupt allocation with the system information tool under hardware,,,
interrupts.
2. Make sure you have the newest V3 drivers, Get them at www.ammoburners.com
3. Make sure that you are not loading unnecessary programs at startup. you
can check
this buy running ... start ,,, run ,,,, msconfig the look at the startup
tab.
4. I would recommend setting up an static virtual memory and not let windows
allocate it.
With 128megs of ram allocate at least 256megs to virtual memory, Maybe
more depending
on what Applications that you might run.
5. Under 3dfx tools don't turn the LOD , level of detail up leave it at 0
6. Don't put any cards in PCI slot 1 as it shares its interrupt with the AGP
slot.

Maybe one of these might help

Thanks.
You are probably right.
I tought GPL isn't graphicaly too hard. But it could be too
high resolution for racing sim (when you scroll all screen
in a turn).
Everyone say that GPL is made for Voodoo, so I thought it
could be OK.

Regarding overclocking, I have tried that (up to 165 Mhz), but think
that graphic card are made too close to limits, unlike CPUs,
so you lose too much stability and gain little performance.
Specialy in racing sims where stability is very inportant.

Amazingly I did 90% of what you kindly suggested me, already.
Maybe I'm realy expecting too much.

Thx

Overclocking  your  V3  to  166  or  so  will  help  it  and  should
be  safe  with  no  added  cooling.

Also,  diabling  vsync  yields  a  slight  fps improvement  in  GPL.

yes this is true- i run in 1024x768 on a p2 400 with a v32000 pci oc'ed to
166 for a year now with no cooling.

the standard tracks (addon tracks are of course another matter, as are full
fields).

I'm very surprised noone has mentioned GSmiley's Glide Wrapper
http://home.swbell.net/gmsmiley/  whose mirror update=2 ini option gives the
single biggest framerate boost I've seen.  Put the sound slider at 8, the
detail slider about half-way, turn off dust and skid marks, and the mirrors
at cars or cars+tracks.  Also be sure to turn off Glide VSync in display
properties and have a clean installation of the latest 1.07 v3 drivers.

You don't mention what wheel you use, some of the FF ones cause slowdowns.

I'm using LWFF. I turned off VSync.
I belive my V3 2000 is the problem because it is inferior to 3000.
Can anybody with V3 2000 achieve resolution 1280x1024.

The cards are identical but for the clockspeed and the game bundle as far
as I know.  There is a builtin overclocking page in the drivers, but it has
to be enabled in the registry, a hassle.  Just get this utility
http://www.tweakfiles.com/cgi-bin/dl-ftp.cgi?ftp.zdnet.com/threedee/t...
es/video/v3oc3200.zip
It works perfectly with no bugs and has nice features.  But again, install
the glide wrapper, a 10% clock boost won't make any difference.

Your V32k is the bottleneck.  It will display 1280, but it won't be very
happy
doing it.  Best to either scale back to 1024x780 or start thinking about a
vidcard upgrade.

As soon as I find out if GeForce MX (or maybe GeForce 256 )
will be enough for N4.
