Black MOMO Question

by TlgtrPr » Fri, 02 Apr 2004 07:25:14

Every now and then (Mainly noticed in SCR for F12K) it seems like I lose some
of my acceleration.  In SCR, I can't seem to get to 6th gear and acceleration
is slow.  I am guessing it is a bad connection or cable, as when I pause the
game and "jiggle and fiddle" (engineering terms) with the cables and
connections I canusually get it working correctly again..?  Yet, I took the
pedals apart and looked for dirty connections, didn't find any, but it didn't
change anything.  (Amazingly enough they worked after I put them back
together.)  I looked the cables over and can't see any obvious kink's or cat
chew marks.

This happen to anybody else?  Anyone with any experiance with anything like
this?  Any advice appreciated, ask if more info needed...

Thanks in advance.

Its a known issue with the Black Momo pedals, they lose calibration.
A Google search should find you a few fixes.

Hey bud.  There is a fix you need to look for.  Basically you will have to
wrap tape around your gas pedals on the inside of the case.  It works good
for a while, but I would recommend buying a new set of pedals to go with
your wheel.  By the way, the black momo is an awesome wheel.  Too bad they
didn't make higher quality pedals to go with it.

This is happening to me now. I'll lose calibration on the gas pedal in the
middle of a race. The only fix is to unplug and re-calibrate. This is the
secong black Momo that has done this. If anyone has a fix..please post. The
other wheel is sitting in the closet with the same problem :(

This happened to me also, so I beefed to Logitech customer support.
After making me jump through a few hoops (update driver, get latest
directx, etc),  they shipped me a new Momo.  Didn't even have to
return the old one.  Call Logitech!

What is the fix?

I had this problem with my original unit.  Logi got in touch with me after
reading my complaints here and sent me new pedals (wanted the old ones back
for testing).  The new ones have worked perfectly until about two days
ago!!!  I was just about to post here again, but seems like I am not alone.

If there is a "fix" that doesn't involve swapping pedals, I would like to
know about it.  Unplugging and replugging USB fixes it every time...but a
little difficult to do mid-race :(

Black MOMO Question

Here are two sites that I found.   Depending on what you read it's either the
pots or a general design flaw or a software problem...

So far, I am able to pause the game, unplug and replug the pedals and we are
back in business, but then I don't race online.  (This is in SCR-haven't tried
it in anything else yet yet.)  If this will continue to solve the problem I can
live with it for now at least.  Since I took the pedals apart I probably can't
swap them out thru Logitec.  IF I end up with new wheel it may not be a MOMO.
I would recomend anyone who does buy one to spend the extra money to get the
'extra warranty' so you can just take it back and swap it out.

Can anybody tell me if the Act_labs pedals are any good and do they just plug
into the MOMO wheel?  they look good on the web site...but I am not much of a
'hardware guy' so I would appreciate any advice....

The stock Act Labs perf pedals work very nicely Tlgtr but the springs were a
constant issue for me.  I followed someone's AL pedal upgrade and they work
pretty good (dont have the url handy).  Not anywhere near the ECCI 6000s
though ;)

AL perf pedals include their own USB breakout so they show up in control
panel/game devices as their own device so you will still need your Momo's
pedals plugged in for wheel power (you can map the other pedals in many
games though).

Mitch

if the Act_labs pedals are any good and do they just plug

Unplug the pedals from the back of the wheel and then plug them back in. The
problem has only happened to me once in 4 months.

No you don't, Mitch.  I use the MOMO Black steering wheel with the Act
Labs Performance Pedal set without my old MOMO pedals being plugged
in.  Just make sure that you go to the next "page" with the little
arrow at the bottom,  when you run the calibration routine in the
game.

I actually never used my black momo with em so I mistakenly assumed it was
the same as the momo force in which the power is plugged into the pedals.
Sorry for the mistake ;)
