Joe, you and John have actually agreed! I'm in shock! Not sure
what the future holds! :)

Oh, nothing much ... now that we've solved the world's most critical
issues, no one will ever flame anyone on the net again, war will
become obsolete, and all software will support 3dfx OOTB. ;-)

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

Get Moto Race and Monster Truck Madness.  Both
of the games r0X in multiplay via Kali (www.kali.net)
and are phun 2 play.  POD is OK, alot of style (ie grafiX) but
not much substance

MotoRacer is by far the best.  POD is the worst racing game I have ever
played.  WIth my Screamin 3D card, MotoRacer looks awesome and runs very
fast.  On the same system, POD crawls and looks wrotten.

I have not played F1 yet, but I would recommend MotoRacer to everybody
looking for a great racing game.

I don't think Pod supports the Rendition chip (?), which may explain why it
crawls.  It does support the 3dfx, and runs fast if you've got one for
sure, but I agree with you that it looks and plays rotten.   During the
brief time I had it loaded and played it, I kept asking myself, "Why?".
Not being able to give myself a sensible answer, I freed the drive space
and returned the (?)game.

I will say one thing though.  There is some A-1 support on the Pod website.
Darned shame there's not more to support.

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

Well on my system with a Monster, POD rocks!!!  Yeah , so it's not the
most realistic racing game.  I didn't buy it for realism.  I have a P100
with 32megs, and I get 30+ fps always.  POD was written natively for the
3dfx, not just D3D.  And for those of you who have it or have the demo.
The best tracks aren't in the game, but on UbiSoft's site for
downloading.

I've seen the demo for Motoracer, and it too rocks. can't wait till it's
out in the US.

And Formula F1...it should be in stores any day now.  The screen shots
look phenomenal, and I can't imagine how much fun it'll be to race with
those graphics at 30+ fps.

This is going to be the best summer ever for PC gamers.  One's with 3D
cards that is.  <G>

I read somewhere that there may a be a rendition patch for pod someday
in the near future, possibly sometime this month.

ditto...

it's very good, very fast, new tracks easily accessible -

I've seen some complaints - but it's excellent... a few Tweeks - to
120Hz and FrameWait off (still no tearing). The wet weather
atmospherics are staggeringly good.

EF2000 patch out 30/6/97 (allegedly - but I'm a believer :-)
Flying Corp patch out this weekend?

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

by Raev » Sun, 15 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I've been playing the MotoRacer demo, and although there are some
hilariously fun tracks and tricks, the arcade driving (riding?) model
is hard to get used to. I keep thinking that my hard earned sim
techniques will diminish if I get good at a game where you can corner
without skidding, do a jump and rear end somebody at top speed, then
keep going like nothing happened. I really hope that in the final game
you fall off the bike more often, even compared to Road Rash this game
was way too forgiving. It is permanently on the 'easy setting, so
hopefully that's it. Fun, though, except that annoying voice at the
end if you don't get the podium: "You lost the race.." well, duh.

Now, I wouldn't go that far, POD is what it is, a futuristic arcade
game, and it seems to do that well, maybe it just requires a higher
end system. Once again, I hope in the final that they fixed that
garbage can sound when you run into the walls, little things like that
would keep me from buying the damn thing.

Good God, from what I've played of it, and what I've heard... it seems
like an irrelevant addition to the racing scene. Oh well...

Have fun racing,

Raevyn

> >MotoRacer is by far the best.

I've played MotoRacer for about 1 week now and I love it! It's running
like wildfire on
my Pentium 200 MMX - never before have I seen such fast graphics.

I have a question about F1 to all you folks out there: is it really fast
on a Matrox
Mystique graphics card  (4 MB) ?
I've seen a test in a german pc-games magazine and they were very
disappointed
about the speed of the graphics.
As I said, I own a pentium 200 MMX with Matrox Mystique and I would buy
the
game if the graphics are smooth and fast.
Can anybody comment on this ?
Thanks.

BTW, I own F1GP2 and I believe the graphics are quite fast - probably
except the
monaco course (all details switched on except the textures in the
mirrors).
Will F1 be faster on my machine ?

207.212.235.10

port 21

directory = CDPatcher/Tracks/3dfx

The cars directory is in /CDPatcher and you need to get CDPatcher.exe
to install the new stuff. Make sure that Pod is installed in the default
installation directory, otherwise the patcher has trouble locating the
new data. It's probably me... :-) - something like C:\Ubisoft\Pod_2...

Get Tweek or similar if you have a 3D card and turn off Vsync and set
up for 120Hz. Gamma 1.6 is good... blurring is good for F1 but less good
for Pod.

All the new stuff is first rate...

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

Man, was I let down by this title. F1 sux bigtime. U can't use joystick and
the resume feature only works when U'r in the game. If U leave the game and
the enter it again the resume button is not available. U'll have to drive
the whole championship in one sitting. And the tearing. I mean, I've got a
P200MMX and the Righteous 3D so I belive that I shouldn't put up with that
kinda ***programming. The racing model is just awful even in the Sim
mode. I went to the store and exchanged it for Carmageddon. Now thats fun.

On POD: This game rocks. The speed. The fun when playing both championship
and multiplayer. New tracks and cars all the time. What more can one ask.

Regards

Martin
