>If it really is "the worst racer ever made", how come so many people
>actually play it and like it?

I dunno, they watch too much TV maybe?

An arcade racer isn't supposed to provide a sensaion of speed?

Total junk.

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

>:POD is the worst racer ever made, avoid it like the plague. I'm still
>I've grown to hate these "avoid it like plague", "worst racer
>ever made" etc. posts.

But it really is. I own or have owned just about every arcade and sim
racer that's been published on the PC. I'm ***ed to them, I buy
them all. And I've never been as disappointed with a racer as I was
with POD. It was just so bad, I think it's the first racer I've ever
owned that I didn't even try all the tracks. I tried about half of
them and then deleted the piece of ***from my hard-drive, sold id
for $25 and counted myself lucky that I got that for it.

Too late, I got rid of it - maybe if the game has included a manual or
even keyboard chart that contained this information it would have
helped.

It is an essential requirement in an ARCADE racer. Without it little
else matters.

Not if you like driving a pinball machine ball. I was hoping for CARS
myself.

A high frame-rate is meaningless if it doesn't translate into a
feeling of speed or at least good control over the cars.

A BIT garish? That's an understatement. That's another thing that
bothered me about POD - after reading about how great it looked I
couldn't believe how downright UGLY it was.

This is one way of discirbing the cars in POD

I'd prefer NFS II or Motor racing GP or even RAC Rally for "realistic"

just my 2 cents.

Hey great idea! Nascar2 on 3dfx.

Hell someone should go over to the 3dfx newsgroup and suggest it:)

I have tried it  with a friend of mine and it worked great.
We are both using 28,8s and the same ISP, but not the same dial up server
because he live in a town 400 km from me.
We use to try new games that supports TCP/IP and Motoracer has to be one of
the actiongame that works best so far. Next thing will be to try play more
than two, but I think that is a dream when all are using 28,8s .

>MotoRacer is INCREDIBLE if you have a good 3d card, especially 3dfx.

Motoracer blows! Those kiddy colors are damn irritating, the bikes
look stupid and the drivers look like those lame characters in ***
gladiators. Avoid it.

POD rocks! If it wasn't for the stupid looking cars (why no normal
cars like in nfs2?) it would be my favorite racing game.

You kidding? NFS2 is my #1 racing game. Voodoo support would be nice,
but i still like it better than all voodoo games together. I play it
on a p6-200, with all settings set to maximum, and as far as i can
tell fps never drop below 30.

The only thing that annoys me in nfs2 is the 'intelligence' of the
other drivers in tournament mode: they would rather run into you and
crash themselves than letting you pass them by. Oh well...

I've been in a three player TCP/IP Moto Racer race and it was very
good -- till we switched to another player as host.

POD or MotoRacer or F1 ?

Another opinion - MotoRacer is _really_ good fun, with physics which pay
homage to the real thing while maintaining arcade playability, and
fantastic multi-player performance. The only problem is that the margin for
error becomes tiny - in our race everyone is racing virtually perfect, with
laptimes of around 38s on Speed Bay. Essentially that means that one
mistake dumps you out of the race, which is a bit of a bummer just trying
not to make a mistake. There's no high-risk possibility to gain time or
catch-up mode which arcade racing usually needs.

POD is far and away and without a shadow of a doubt the worst racing game I
have ever played. A serious lack of impression of speed, dull tracks,
uninvolving physics, pinball like car properties, I even deleted the free
demo. That's playing it with a 3dFX card. I personally would avoid this at
all costs.

Second only to POD, NFS2 seems to be one huge FMV nightmare. Driving
involvement falls far short of NFS1, and new cars and clothes do not make
up for it.

Of the current crop of arcade racers, Moto Race is most fun, with "F1"
second. That's my opinion, primarily based upon how much fun they are to
drive.

We'll he is right, if you switch to the***pit view you definitely get
more of a sense of speed with POD.  I think its an excellent game.
Although going up a hill shouldn't be bogging down the car like it does.

I also would have preferred less futuristic looking racing cars.

>Why not give an example or a situation where your car bounced around
>like "weightless little pinball machine balls."

OK: Start a POD race. Drive a car. That's it.

Maybe one problem was the game was designed for a joystick or gamepad,
and I was using a driving wheel. For a racing game you'd think they'd
test a wheel.
