Hello John, nice to bump into you again so to speak!

Hehe, you got a spam killer too? Don't work do they?

Totally agree with your comments about POD, and I was beginning to
think I was the only one who disliked this game. I bought it,
installed it and deleted it the same day. Motoracer however, now this
is a game I could get *seriously* ***ed to. In fact it's probably
saved me money on my phone bill, every time the PC gets switched on
now I'll have 'just a quick game' (it never is) of Motoracer instead
of spending hours playing internet Quake!

A special mention must go also to Carmageddon too. Never has a demo
spent so long on my HD, I've played it to death but I still keep going
back for more!

Heh. A book written about a LOTUS product. That'll be a hot seller! Lotus'
share of the Office Suite market (where LotusScript is, right?) is about
what, 1 percent?

The book is about Lotus Notes. It is the *** product in the
groupware market. It has nothing to do with Office Suites. There are
over 11 milion Lotus Notes users, currently growing at a rate of 2
million users per quarter (one of the big areas of growth is using
Notes to host dynamic world wide web sites).

Sorry, but I have no idea what the future engines sound. ;-)
Heck, I don't even know what kind of fuel they use!

Maybe the POD cars are new nuclear powered, silent engines?

>>I've grown to hate these "avoid it like plague", "worst racer
>>ever made" etc. posts.
>But it really is.

That's your opinion. Many people actually like POD, so apparently it
isn't the "worst arcade racer ever". You like Cruisin' USA better? You
like Megarace better? To each his own.

I've had lots of racers where I haven't played all the tracks. Nascar
for one. So I guess Nascar is the worst racing game ever then. Hey,
come to think of it, I haven't played all the tracks in Moto Racer
either! ;^)

For some reason the European version did have a hardbound manual.
Are you sure there were no README-files or anything?

Many people still love Monster Truck Madness and Nascar. Nascar is not
an "arcade racer", but I'd think that your requirement of "sense of
speed" applies to all racing games, including sims. Yes, I find the
sense of speed in POD better than in the original Nascar Racing by
Papyrus.

Seems to me you were playing a different game than I was. Do the cars
bounce off the walls like a pinball ball, or what do you mean? Didn't
see that myself in POD.

Have you tried real life mini cart racing (or whatever it is called)?
The handling of the POD cars resemble it a lot in my opinion.
For instance, you can try to take the corners in full speed, but that
may make your car spin, just like in POD. Or if another "car" hits you
from behind from an angle, you most probably spin, just like in POD.
And the sense of speed in POD is actually better than in real life mini
cart racing. ;^)

POD has both IMO. Try the***pit view.

Could you give some examples of this? Are you saying that the cars e.g.
bounce off the walls like a pinball?  I've never seen this happen in
POD.

>OK: Start a POD race. Drive a car. That's it.

Tried that. Still didn't see it bouncing off the walls like a pinball
machine ball. Usually it stopped if I hit the walls. I wonder how a
real car would behave in a similar situation? ;^)

Wrong. There is an option for the driving wheel, which feels quite
different to the joystick option. One difference was that with the
wheel there basically seems to be no "dead zone" (just like your car
most probably doesn't have one), while with a joystick there is a dead
zone to help you drive straight more easily when needed.

It's interesting that you mention Megarace - POD is basically Megarace
2. In fact, Megarace is the one racer I have played that is as bad as
POD, for the same reasons that POD is bad.

I dunno, I don't usually go crounging around the hard-drive to find
out basic interface information about a game. It's always come with
the game before.

Yes, and of the other cars, which were also bouncing around. It seemed
impossible to get any RACING started.

Well, there wheel support suck then. It didn't feel even remotely like
a real car.

I've seen Megarace 2 and I think POD is very different from it. The
tracks in Megarace 2 are pre-rendered. So the tracks are actually
playbacks only. In POD, however, the tracks are fully 3D. This makes
a difference because in Megarace 2 the player is very much limited
and cannot look at the tracks freely.

IMO the physics model in POD is good enough for an arcade racer. The
cars climb up the wall if it's not too steep and also flip over if
they pass a slope with two wheels on the same side.

To this day I will still say that Megarace 2 is one of the best racers out
there (although Megarace 1 sucked)... Its gorgeous (who cares if its on
rails, ALL racers are that wont let you go off the track), and it plays
fast even on low-end machines at a higher than 320x200 res.

Exacally.....POD is an ARCADE game...not a sim, so don't judge it as a
sim. Sheash! ;)

And it is a very good arcade game too. I am...i guess one of the few that
really like the game. I have played the demo alot, and now am seriously
considering buying it.

Although I have one complaint... the engine sound is preaty bad. When your at
the starting line it sounds great (like their is a 12-cylinder turbo
somthing under the hood.....muhahaha) but once you get going it sounds
like an electric car.

I will admit I am being critical, but it would have been nice to have a
nice engine sample. Nascar is the only game I have played that had good
engine sample (really realisitic to be honest). All the other car sims I
have played have the same electricish engine noise.

Oh well, that was my couple o cents.
