Pod is one of the worst racers ever made.  Nobody would have paid
attention to it if it weren't for MMX and 3D cards support.

: it, the way you drive with two tires after partly hitting
: a slope etc.), it appears to behave rather realistically.
:

You have to admit, though, that even though the frame rate of NFS2 is
poor, its physics are unmatched. You can even see shock absorber
reactions on the car's tires (in replay and cam views).

And one thing that bothers me a bit about POD is the sound. Up at the
starting line, the car sounds like it has a 427 Hemi under the hood
(GREAT!) But when you take off, the engine sounds degrade to that of a
Hyunday Excell (YUK!!)

R:

That had to be the first thing I noticed with the demo. If only it could keep
that great hemi rev.

As in moto-racer with the dirt bike, when ideling at certain points it actual
sounds like a dirt bike. To bad it can't sustain that. It must be down right
impossible to get a true car sound for a game. Maybe we need to put a few
million in technology to get this problemed resolved.

>>Which one is a better game ?
>>Which one worth buying ?

I got a copy of POD with my new MMX machine, it's supposed to but
doesn't do multiplayer, though it pretends it'll upgrade itself when
connected to their WWWebsite.  Connecting to their WWWebsite results
in upgrading the downloader but no further action.

I don't have time for this, it goes in the discard pile.

>Yes it has both TCP/IP and IPX protocols,

That's a start but does it actually WORK on the Internet? Has anyone
tried it? (I'm buying it anyway but I'd really like multiplay and I
don't have access to a LAN).

OK, so it's a racing-lite game.  But damn, the game is smooth, especially with 3D acceleration.  When I first
saw this, I thought it was an FMV!  But then, the game is LITE.

I like POD myself.  It has great graphics.  I think a lot of people here
are looking for simulator type games, POD is an arcade type game and is fun
to play with arcade quality graphics.  I like both arcade and simulator
racing games.  Nascar II is the best simulator racing game in my opinion
and would be great in a 3dfx version.

I've grown to hate these "avoid it like plague", "worst racer
ever made" etc. posts. People have said
it both about POD and F1, yet LOTS of people seem to like it.
So, apparently POD is not "the worst racer ever made", if so many
people actually like it and play it.

I personally like POD. Hey, I like Moto Racer as well!

:trying to figure out how they made a game that has both an extremely

Maybe you should try to "cockpit view". If that doesn't have enough
"sense of speed", I don't know what does.

Furthermore, is the "sense of speed" really ALL that counts in
a racer? Is there something wrong with the handling of the car
in POD? Do the graphics stutter? Those are what are much more
important to me personally.

Monster Truck Madness has even a worse "sense of speed" than POD
in outside views, yet many people (including me) like MTM
as well.

:stinks, next to POD even the dog NFS 2 looks good.

Uh oh... POD has fast and great looking (albeit a bit too garish)
and fast graphics, and good control, NFS2 does not.

:You gotta be bullshitting me ... POD car physics are COMPLETELY
:unrealistic, plus it has no sensation of speed (despite the high frame
:rate). It is the worst racer of all time, and that's not a statement I
:make lightly (it had some good competition for this title from NFS 2,

If it really is "the worst racer ever made", how come so many people
actually play it and like it?

Only because the only thing you care about in a racer is this
"sense of speed" doesn't mean everyone does. Furthermmore,
apparently you haven't tried the "cockpit mode" in POD at all.
The sense of speed seems very good in it.

:>Motoracer is super fast and smooth, easy to control with a joystick
:>and just plain FUN!!
:
:Agreed.

Here, I'll play your game:

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! Moto Racer has that AWFUL pop up,
which easily makes it the worst racing game ever made, and which
will be ever made! And you can sometimes see the scenery through the
walls, and the 2D bitmap in the horizon doesn't tilt with you!
Awful! Nobody can like this dog because of those definite
shortcomings!!!".

Now that wasn't hard, was it? ;^)

Oh, forgot to ask: in what way are the POD car physics
_completely_ unrealistic? Judging by how the environment affects
your car (the way you drop from an edge if you don't quite make
it, the way you drive with two tires after partly hitting
a slope etc.), it appears to behave rather realistically.

In fact, reminds me of the Carmageddon demo, which has gotten
lots of praise due to its "realistic physics".

In the way they bonce around like weightless litle pinball machine
balls.

Carmaggeddon is an arcader too not a sim, but it's true it's physics
and driving model are 1000 times better than POD (which isn't saying
much I'll grant you!).

But the NFS 1 cars felt more real. The driving model in NFS 2 somehow
got worse.
