Saw this in yesterdays Sydney Morning Herald, it may be of interest to
some of you:

"Race headquarters has come to the loungeroom in the form of a new
Formula One simulator marketed by Holden Special Vehicles.
Developed by former racing driver John Crook, the $2,995 and $3,995
simulators replicate a F1***pit and plug straight into any home
computer equipped with a 486/66 chip or better.
There are two models, the lower priced Clubsport/S and the more
handsomely trimmed HRT/S, made from a carbon fibre and aluminium "tub". A
Formula 3000 steering wheel, racing seat, adjustable steering column and
alloy pedals, a hinged nose cone and the mandatory hero-driver's drink
bottle are standard equipment.
The optional piece de resistance: a seat shaker with 25-watt
amplifier, so you feel the track and be deafened by the scream of the
engine."

Can someone loan me $4000? :)

I have one of these in my room, but not done up in the HRT colours or
markings. If anyone wants a picture of what they look like I'll post a
picture to one of the general binaries groups.

Greg!!!!!

For a paltry $70 you can BUILD yourself a racing simulator out of WOOD
like the one found at:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/~hoppy1/simcar.html

True, I got the idea after seeing the aforementioned Clubsport on a TV
show but one week later I had my car built, painted and RACING.   An
"Indoor Indycar".   And no patent ... copy it for yourselves ... just
let me know how you went.

Cheers,

Craig.

I saw both models at the Melbourne Motor Show during the Grand Prix week.
I was most impressed with the unit but I believe they've got their pricing
all wrong (prices up to $4000!!!!). I managed to talk to someone there
(the guy supposed to look after the stand was too busy playing ICR2) that
gave me some brochures and mentioned that a do-it-yourself assembly kit
could also be provided at a lower cost.  I thought even this kit was
prohibitive in price.

Too bad it's priced so high otherwise I know that I, and several of my
racing sim friends, would have looked more intently at purchasing the
unit. Pity.

Pardon my ignorance, but how much is $4000 Oz bucks translated to US dollars?
That will let me convert it into Canadian... :)

I suppose that shipping from Oz would be prohibitive...but hey!  I know a guy
who flies for Qantas...  :)

Hello,

I am looking for a Nascar league for those of us without incredible
driving abilities. I am currently in Nasscar and Nrl (through ivga) but
can rarely keep up with the fields and can never qualify better than
last. These are great for learning but I need something I can be
competitive in. If any one knows of a league like this please e-mail me
or post a note here

Thanks
John

Try the NCAR racing league in CompuServe's Sports Simulations Forum in
the Racing Circuits Section.  They have a racing league which has four
different skill levels to suit those who haven't become masters of Nascar
Racing just yet.  Good Luck!

Yeah, but they forgot the big chunk of concrete that comes in and
kills you when you hit the wall. Now that's realism!
