What controls to use for P.C. Race games???

I don't have much racing background in my family but I like watching
Indycar Racing on T.V.  I got Indycar2 for my P.C. and I can't seem to
find any way to control things well.  The gravis gamepad and the
keyboard don't work at all because there not anaolg, Microsoft
Sidewinder joystick dosen't work because is to sensative at some points
and not sensative enough at others.  Racing at a Michagan where long,
slow sweeping turns are nessary is impossible with the above three
controlers.  My Virtual Pilot Pro works somewhat, but the game is only
semi-playable because it is so loose.  Just a little force makes the
wheels turn quickly enough to loose grip.  Real steering wheels take
100X the force to turn.
My question is what do those of you on this newsgroop use to play these
games?  Do all of you own T2's?  If you do then please tell me about
it.  I really want to enjoy these great games.  Thanx

I've been using the T2 for almost a year now. Like you I tried the
Joystick / VirtualPilot yoke approach and found it lacking (although I
know of several racers that are successful using these controllers) And
while the T2 is *not* perfect, I beleive it is still the best way to
drive your virtual car in Nascar & ICR2. I believe that Adam and his
team at Papyrus designed both games *specifically* to be played with the
TM controls, (hence the linear and non-linear steering options,) and
Papyrus' steering routines have yet to be matched by any other driving
sim.

For example, I will not experience the same level of control with my T2
when playing other sims like NFS:SE, Whiplash, or GP2. (i'd have to
tweak my steering settings in GP2 a great deal to match the
responsiveness of ICR2)

But as much as I like the T2, (it was a HUGE improvement over the
earlier T1) it's not the perfect controller...just the best available.
Hold out a little longer. TM will release a new wheel set called the
"Grand Prix I" and CH is working on a force-feedback steering wheel for
release in Spring 97....like mil-spec Joysticks, the competition for
steering wheel controllers is about to heat up.

 Hi Bill,
I started sim racing in Jan 1996 and bought a T2 shortly
thereafter. It's a good piece of hardware with fairly good quality for the
price (around $100) The only problem I have had are the springs for the
pedals breaking, you can get spare ones from thrustmaster. Buying a wheel
and pedals will greatly enhance your racing enjoyment and more importantly
your lap times.  One more tip is to drill a couple of holes in your pedal
platform and***it down so it doesn't move .
