Control Panel: Game Controllers HELP!!

by Zanda » Tue, 07 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I need help with this one. When I click on the Game Controllers
icon in Control Panel, it opens and closes in the blink of an eye.
Why would it do this? Why won't it stay open? I re-installed
DirectX 6.1, but it didn't have any effect. I have a Win98 system
with a CH Products game card (ISA) installed and a TSW2 wheel
attached to it. I have the joystick port on my SB PCI 128
disabled.

Any help appreciated.

Control Panel: Game Controllers HELP!!

Hi,

The problem is that you have installed something that has confused DirectX.
Most likely a DLL issue.

Exactly the same thing happened to me with W95 about 6 months ago (using a
Logitech Formula Force wheel).  A far as I know it was after installing a
game, possibly Incoming, and/or a replacement DirectX 6.? and I spent *ages*
trying to fix it.

It drove me crazy until I installed something else (again, don't remember
what, but may have been TOCA 2?? sorry) and the problem just went away and
never came back.  Perhaps the game installed a later DirectX file or two??

Try reinstalling your games one by one.  If that doesn't work, get another
version of Direct X (later or earlier) and reinstall.

Failing that, W98 reinstall (ouch).

I hope this is of some help.

Cheers,

Nigel
