Nascar's a big joke eh?  Look at F1.  They can go ahead and feel like gods,
when they cry about having to deal with 3 g's in the corners.  I won't miss
F1 not being on TV, all's they do is stay in line,  and supposedly race for
2 hours.  Oh yeah, tell the millions of Nascar fans around the world that
its a joke.  F1 is dying.  All's I have to say is, 'Oh well.'

Put a Nascar driver into a REAL racecar and see how he goes.
That's all I have to say.

At least they don't have pre-race agreements and "team orders"-besides; why
are we comparing the two? Two totally different forms of racing. Oh yeah at
least in nascar the teams on the lower end of the $$ scale actually have a
chance to win, in F1 it's the same 4 teams.

Just to correct you an F1 corners at 4.5 G's,  and there will never come a
point in time where Nascar will ever be on the same level as Formula One.  F1
dying I don't think so a full season of Formula one is viewed by 42 billion
people worldwide.  If you can't stand to watch F1 than don't it's not like it
matters anyway.

Yeh, they race around in circles continually, with the car biased into
the turns.  Thats real racing is it ?  How often do NASCAR drivers have
to break from 200mph down to 60mph at a hairpin ?  How often do NASCAR
drivers actually have to use the brake in a race ?  and I mean proper
braking, not just slowing down a little bit !

Sorry, but F1 will always be more popular.  NASCAR is just too boring to
watch. IMHO.

Not in the US

2 McLaren's lappin' the rest of the field isn't? How much passing was going
on? Did the race get the right winner? The GP of Australia was a joke.

Even though the Australian Grand Prix was a walkover it was still far
from boring.  The battle for third, fourth, fifth etc was quite intense
for most of the race.
At least the drivers have to turn the wheel in more than one direction.

I can't see the attraction of watching cars go around in circles for 2
hours.

You Brits obviously have no appreciation for the finer points of
hauling a load of moonshine to market.   :-)  :-)  :-)

Actually, I found Nascar to be very boring until just a few years ago.
Then I actually payed attention to one of the races and watched a
little closer to see what was really going on.  You might say it's a
"Southern Thang" or you might say that it's (like beer) an "acquired
taste" or you might just choose not to watch it.  Either is fine.

Brad,

I have to compliment you.
Well done for not resorting to harsh language and insults as many people
have already done.
As you've said any sport is an acquired taste.  I'm a big fan of most
American sports, and most forms of Motor racing, but I just can't seem
to get interested in NASCAR.  On "proper" tracks (non-oval) the racing
is quite good, but when watching a race on an oval I just can't seem to
stay interested.

I don't know if it's a coincidence but I don't drink beer either ! :-)
On the other hand, my favourite drink is Southern Comfort ! :-)
I don't what's going on here :-)

It's nice to be able to have a civilised conversation and express your
opinions without being flamed by half of USENET.

Thanks again

Regards

Andrew

1) How was the competition for tenth through twenty second? Must have been
exciting wondering who was going to drop out of the "race" next.

2) I guess two hours is too much time to devote to watching a "race." Why
spend all that time when all you have to watch in an F1 "race" is the battle
into the first turn. Then you can turn the "race" off, confident in the
knowledge that you have just seen the only passing for the lead to occur for
the entire "race."

No team orders in NASCAR? Since when? I seem to remember a couple of
years ago that the a team entered another car in the last race with the
expressed purpose of ensuring that the championship leader finish at
least second last (the position he needed to secure his championship.)
In other words, they ran an extra car and driver who had orders to
remain behind the Champ-leader and if the Champ-leader (cant remember
which driver or team this was) was to drop out or crash, the "dummy" car
was to fall out before passing the Champ-leader, thus ensuring the
championship win. This is only one of many "team-orders" examples that I
have witnessed in NASCAR, so don't try to tell me the situation doesn't
apply here.

Anyway, we are comparing apples to oranges here; lets just enjoy each
form of motorsports for what it is.

Thank you for stating the obvious, but I guess we were talking
worldwide.

Yes, considering Mika H?kkinen lead the race most of the time, and
lost his lead only because the grease monkeys ordered him for an extra
tire change uselessly.
