the 500 cc F1 GP bikes are two stroke and a lot faster while the AMA
superbikes  & World superbikes are 4 stroke but very popular now,  and there
like what your can but at your locaI bike shop I kinda liken it to the
difference between   f1 cars  and Indycar  or Nascar.

Superbikes are based on real life production motorcycles that you can buy
and ride on the road. They have four stroke motors with the 4 cylinder
machines (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki) restricted to a 750 cc engine capacity
and the twin cylinder machines (Ducati, Aprillia) can have a 1000 cc
capacity.

The 500 cc GP bikes are have two stroke motors and are NOT based on road
bikes. They have adjustable everything and not many people on the planet can
ride them properly at all (says the spectator :-)  There is a mixture of 2,
3 and 4 cylinder machines in this class.

The superbikes have 2 races per round with points scored in both rounds, in
the World Superbike Championship. The 500GP bikes have one longer race each
round.

I am sure someone can add a bit more or poke fun at what I have said :-),
but this may help.

Bye,
Ian

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, GP are the 2-stroke hot-rods of
2-wheel racing, while World Super Bike and AMA Super Bike make up the
4-strokes (similar to in appearance to street legal sportbikes).

GP500 is an upcoming new title from MicroProse - Kenny Roberts, Jr.
assisted in the development of the physics model, while DornaTV provided
the data modeling of the tracks (12 in all).  GP500 models the 1998
GP500 season and is slated for a Christmas release date.

Cheers!

Marc

Just to be pedantic... Superbikes hold the current two wheel lap record
around Phillip Island actually. Less than 25 secs slower than a Formula 1
car! :))

Putting it in 4 wheel context, 500cc is more like a high tech racing formula like F1

Superbikes are more production based like touring cars....

GP500's are the F1 500cc bikes of Mick Doohan etc.., so I surpose it's a sim
of that
although i have not played it yet,but EA's world superbike's is awesome as
a bike sim.

yeah - and how many of us can afford to go out and get a Yamaha R7 at
over 20,000ukp?? 'based on real life' my ass!!!
interesting to see whether 2 strokes continue as they are or whether the
fours will eventually become part of the GP class.....

Perhaps I should have said "very loosely based on..." :-)  Some people must
be buying the expensive machinery or they would not be making them!

Most recent news on 4 strokes in the GP's is (quoting from Australian
Motorcycle News, May 14-27 1999) as follows:

- Noise limit of 115 to 120 dB (rather than the no noise limit that was
first proposed - that would have been real nice!)
- Less than 1000cc in capacity, but the Grand Prix Manufacturers'
Association Secretary, Mr. Tsubouchi, would not confirm rumours of a 750cc
being set in place.
- Fuel consumption limits being introduced. 2 strokes revert to the former
32lt limit (currently free), 4 strokes initially a 24lt limit dropping back
to 22lt after 3 years.
- Oval pistons will not be counted as two cylinders.
- Weight limits for the bikes: 135kg minimum three cylinders, 145kg for four
cylinders and 155kg for six or more cylinders.

No mention of when this may happen, so who knows if it will or not.

I thought that game was still a secret? Where did you hear about it?

Its a fully licenced GP500 game with the real riders and tracks and some
of the best graphics I have seen in any game!

Nuff said. Lets just wait for the official press releases before I get
into trouble.

GP 500 bikes ar 500cc 2,3 or 4 Cylinder two strokes. They can use and frames,
suspension, wheels etc.

Superbikes are 750cc 4 Cylinder or 1000cc 2 Cylinder four strokes based on
production frames and engines.

GP500 bikes are way harder to race and are the F1 of motorcycles. The Superbikes
are more entertaining because there are more riders who can go fast on them and the
racing is a lot closer. The AMA Superbikes are identical to the World Superbikes in
terms of bike specifications.

About the only country that has a domestic GP500 competition is Japan. THis is
becuase the bikes cost way too much!

A GP500 game created with accurate physics should be a lot harder than EA
Superbikes to master.

P.S. The GP500 class will most likely be replaced by a GP750 4 stroke class in the
next year or so. The only trouble is they are getting over 250HP out of the test
750's!

Excellent reply!

And I can assure you this spectator tells the GP500 riders exactly what they are
doing wrong even if they can;t here me yelling at the TV!

And excellent rendering of the bikes and tracks it is too!

That's unfair letting Kenny get all of that extra practice in. No wonder he
is winning!
