F1RS--Is a 3D card neccessary?

by The Digital Dude » Wed, 25 Mar 1998 04:00:00

I've downloaded the demo, and tried to play a demo of F1RS on CD.  My
question is, will I have to have a 3D card to play this?  My 233 MHz MMX
system has an ATI Rage II+ graphics card.
I plan on buying a voodoo 2 card, but not for a few months.

Hi,
Yes you need a 3Dfx acrd for the Demo. But, you can use D3D in the
full version.
I have tried both and in F1rs 3Dfx is the way to go. But it is usable with
D3D.

There is a Direct3D version but the consensus seems to be that it is far
inferior to the Glide (Voodoo) version.

Thanks for the info.  I realize that it won't be as good without the 3Dfx
card, but I'll have one eventually.

Where did you get the demo?

I downloaded the demo, (26MB), and it's also on a new British PC mag. called
Ultimate PC.  Go to Ubisoft's website, and then to the F1RS page, and
there's an animated GIF that shows which current issues have the demo.
