Well it appears that whether we like it or not, Nascar Thunder 2003 will
become the future of nascar racing on the PC since they now own the Nascar
license. You can
say we just will not buy it and EA will just sit on the license and not
release anymore nascar titles which we both lose.
I just think ,after playing the game alot lately, that its a small step
backwards from what we had in N2003. There are some redeeming aspects of
NT2003 but overall, its not a crisp package. You can see some of the n2003
features in it (probably due to input from ex papyrus employees). I just
dont think we will see many PATCHES for it to improve it in the coming
year.. Do you think we will still be playing this game 3 months from today?

Have I skipped several months here? Don't tell me I missed the release of GPL2
as well...

No.  The future of nascar racing *simulations* on the PC will be NASCAR
Racing 2003 by Papyrus.

Until a simulation comes out that surpasses NR 2003 it will be the
finest sim ever made, much in the same way that GPL is the finest
open-wheeled sim ever made.

I won't be playing this game period from what I have seen and read about it so far.
If that is the future for our Nascar sim racing, especially online, imho we are in trouble. Hopefully Papy will make a killer update to N2002 as their finale, and we can use it for online racing for a long time to come.
Perhaps if I did more must offline racing with the ai I might be more interested in it, but then again I really don't do that much online racing anymore, no where near what I used to back when we had N2 on Ten.  Funny thing is, I am enjoying the hell out of F12002 offline. I guess Papy just spoiled us with their excellent mutliplayer capability.
Sure would be nice to see them develop an open wheel sim again...

EA lose, not me.

It will be interesting to see if EA handles the responsibility of having
that franchise well.

If they don't, we can only hope Nascar see's it for what it is, and
allocates it back to Papy/Sierra in the future.

Anyone know how long the agreement is for ?

The problem here is how long the match service stays up?

It's my understanding that they removed some code that makes NR2002 no
longer work with third-party match-making services.  Would that be put back
in to NR2003 ?

And this is entirely possible.

We cannot forget that the Papy that brought us these thrilling simulations
is no more.  That team has long-since broken up, and the current team is
working with a legacy that they inherited from the originating crew.

The deplorable damage physics and AI of NR2002 are key indicators of this.
The physics are really the only thing that remain "Papy" like IMHO.

It's quite possible some other team can out-do Papy now, and I look forward
to it.

Unfortunately, NT2003 ain't it.  It has it s nice points, but it's not a
true simulation like we've come to know and love.  It's a game for the
masses, not for the hard-core simmer.

Truthfully, I don't care if anyone will still be playing next WEEK.  From what
I"ve heard so far, I don't have any intention of getting it...

If it is put back, you could have a user run service, gamespy or whomever
run it without a problem.  They striped out the server broadcast part.  I
believe it is still within N2002, they just don't allow it as an option in
the ini file like we had in GPL.

Uh, EA has had a NASCAR license for several years.  I don't see any
reason why Papy/Sierra couldn't continue making Nascar Racing series
games, except that they're probably bored out of their skulls by now.
