Does anyone rate the Xbox then?

Just wondered - buying a PS2 or an Xbox looks a damn sight
better bet than replacing my PC.

I have never played any of the GT games, but I git a chance to play Gotham
racing on the X box. It was fun, but very much Need for Speed-ish. Not by
any strech a true sim. I was still fun to play, and got better the more
beers we downed. Launch the mini over the stairs was a blast.

I'd go for the X-Box.
Project Gotham and the Rally game (can't remember the name) are FUN ;)

I tried both the PS2 and the X-box this weekend and the X-Box won big
time... As soon as I had the chance I hooked it up and played Project Gotham
the rest of the night... the PS2 collected dust in the corner.

I hope RaceSimCentral will be able to feature some reviews on the X-Box
games soon ... written by *** GPL drivers, should be interesting.

For me the reverse is true. I own both consoles, and the only ones
really worth my gameplay time on the XBox are Halo and Rallisport
Challenge. Those two are awesome, but two games does not a system
make. Get a PS2 today, or wait a while until there are more great XBox
games.

I have the xbox and have played the PS2, plus I just upgraded the PC. Here's
your criteria for an upgrade:

1. Do you primarily play racing&flight sims/do office work?
2. Do you primarily play sports/arcade racers/adventure/shooters?
3. Do you like both?

If your answer is #1, get the pc upgraded.
If two, then get a console. I prefer the xbox, I think its got better
graphics, gameplay.
If three, then get both :)

Since I've got an X, I haven't even looked at the PC for games.
I have a good PC too.
Something about a big screen, a couch and surround sound just does it.

Something about only 340,000 pixels (NTSC) doesn't...for me.

GT3 on PS2 is fun to me (very ***ing).  I love buying parts, racing to win
money to buy more parts, etc..  I haven't seen enough of the XBox to compare
the two though.

Me too, but as a Dreamcast owner, my X-box hasn't really been anything other
than deja-vu.  The X-box is basically a Dreamcast 1.5
e.g
Project Gotham = Metropolis Street Racer 2
DOA3 = DOA2 (with slightly prettier backgrounds.)
Wreckless = 30fps Crazy Taxi - ugh!
Halo = 30fps joypad FPS - yikes!
Rallysport Challenge = quite good, but too 'simple' compared to Rally Trophy
etc.

Tend to agree.  The Xbox is just a stalking horse for MS's "home appliance",
i.e., so close to a PC, why bother?  MS had to threaten dire consequences if
their s/w suppliers didn't line up behind it (e.g., Halo).  I'm surprised
their online component is still chocked.  The GC is too juvenile, altho my
9-year-old loves the selection of titles.  I think Sony owns the sweetspot.
(I see they just launched a "strategic partnership" with nVidia.  I also see
MS is thinking abt. ending their relationship w. nVidia.)  And I see rumors
that both the PS2 and the Xbox may come down to GC's pricepoint by Xmas.
Interesting times for console enthusiasts....

But like I say, NTSC graphics (barely equal to VGA) is just too chunky for
this monkey.

Sony owns the sweetspot?  I'm not blown away by the X-box, but I'd still
consider it better value for money even if it were twice the price of a PS2.

I own them both, and I buy more games for the PS2 than my xbox, simply
because there are currently more good games available for the ps2.  The gap
is narrowing, but I still think that the ps2 will always hold a narrow edge
in available games for choice, principally because of a better relationship
with japanese game developers.
Some Xbox games look a bit better , but it is not a huge difference. It's
about on par with the difference between Dreamcast games and PS2 games,
which is generally not huge, and in a few cases favors the Dreamcast version
of a game, i.e. Lemans 24 hour Racing. For the present I would favor the PS2
if you can only choose one, simply because of the huge software library, and
the fact that ,aside from far better antialiasing of XBOX games, there is
not a huge difference in graphics. If you are looking further down the line
into the future, then the XBOX may be a slightly better choice, but not by
as much as fans of either console would have you think. Its more akin to
having a Geforce 3 versus a new geforce 4. Both are excellent, make your
software choice the deciding factor.

Well the day you can run 1600x1200 on a 61 inch PC monitor, you let me know!

10 feet away, it looks as good as 2' away from my 1024x768 PC screen.

Doesn't the X-box support HDTV?  Anyone seen it?

Well, on paper, the X-box can move way more polygons than the PS2 or DC
(which incidentally have fairly similar polygon capabilities)  It's
difficult to comprehend why 30fps games are still making an appearance on
X-box.
