I and a few others experienced this problem when we bought
Voodoo3's this summer. Regardless of what I did in the 3dfx tweaks my
display would still remain dark (making it difficult to race on
circuits with black tarmac). I have never been able to trace the
exact cause of this problem and it also seems to be one that affects
only a small number of people based on Usenet postings. I don't think
I've even seen the problem acknowledged by 3dfx. Nevertheless, there
is a solution.
I found an old version of GLIDE2X.DLL for the Voodoo Banshee
card (dated October 98) that responds to gamma controls properly. All
you have to do is copy the file into the same directory as GPL. If
you can't find it anywhere, I'd be more than glad to send it to you.
