Great links by the way, but the Spa site missed a lot of photos,
shame. Oh well, saturday I'll see it in 3d :)

You are correct, at least according to Manfred von Brauchtisch (sp),
legendary Mercedes team leader back in the 30's, I believe it was one of
the pre war Mercedes drivers who used it first, in a last lap effort to
take the win, and if memory serves me right, he was successful too

Damn, can't remember the name, but it was one of the big names in
Mercedes' racing history.....

Don't do what I did, I was chasing an old 911 through the twisty bits,
and I thought he was going so slow through the banking that I decided to
go for an outside move...

Let me put it like this, it was proven beyond any doubt that you can go
considerably faster through the banked section, even if you are a wimp,
than you can go through the flat bit.........I must have chased that
slide for at least a 100 yards or so......good thing my old Ascona B was
well mannered when you took it beyond its limits :-)

If you get a chance to have a ride in the "Renn Taxi", take it, it's
some of the best money I've ever spend, I still have a VBFG whenever I
think back on that ride <VBFG>

No, you're wrong. They were designed as
banked corners. In the dim past the banked
parts were even tarmac.

The problem is that GP2 and GPL have likely absolutely no similarities in
track formats.  GP2s is obviously easier to crack - look at the number of
tracks and the editor!!  The only reason you see converters of any kind
(notice how they are ALL from Papy to Papy?  N2><ICR2, N3><NL, ICR2>N3>GPL,
etc etc) is because all Papy games have similar formats for the tracks.
Kinda like comparing DOS 6.22 to Win98SE.  Enough differences that it takes
work to port something written especially for DOS 6.22 to 98SE, but enough
similarites that it is possible.

Ugh, that's what I get from using my fading memory, the team leader was
of course Alfred Neubauer, and the driver was Rudolf
Caracciola.......sigh, I can remember that my memory was very good once,
but that's about all I can remember with certainty these days :-)

Not necessarilly the right conclusion  :-)

Paul Hoad started cracking the track format way back when F1GP was
released (1992?). Add to this the very "open" attitude of everyone
involved and the large userbase.
