The banking at the Pants Ring was designed so you could get the car at
90 degrees. Thus it is made out of 16 invidually angled rings of
track. Because of the limits of GPL, these sections are linearly sloped
- thus driving with the imposed minimal tyre contact patch is very
difficult.
Normally banked tracks either have smoothly curved cross-sections, or
are simply a piece of track where the outside has been raised - thus one
flat piece.
And no, the human controlled cars don't seem to exhibit any weird
physics, but the AI have big problems!
Oh, and just to throw another spanner in, I've discovered that it is
possible to slipstream with both cars in mid air !
