Time for an upgrade dude. Trust me, you do not want to race a game getting less than 10 fps with
no graphics on. I rather spend my time looking for a new computer

Is my paltry system (P166mmx, 8mb Voodoo 1, 32mb ram) able to cope with
GPL, given that I'm a good show to get it for Chrissy?

I've run the demo and it seems okay. I realise an upgrade would be the
shot, but I can't manage it just yet.

Opinions anyone?

Thanks, Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Your system will run GPL, but don't expect miracles..
I used to use a system even slower than what you have at the moment for
GPL, both on-line and off-line, (p150  4meg voodoo1 24meggs ram)  and
it did the job ok for me.
It was better on-line than it was off-line, as i had problems even
running with 5 ai drivers, unless i turned the graphics way down, but
on-line at 640x480, i competed in a on-line league with my p150 for 6
months, without too many problems..
One thing you will need to do when you get GPL, is to alter the sound
setting in the: "APP.INI"  file, which you will find in the GPL folder.
Change the line that says: "soundQuality = 2"  to "soundQuality = 0"
That will give you an extra 4 fps on a P166..
Don't use any mirror detail and keep the detail slider to the far left,
also keep the sounds heard to a minimum, i used to use 4 and that helps
as well.
Obviously keep graphics to a reasonable level as well and if you do all
that, then you will at least be able to play GPL and get some enjoyment
out of it with your p166, voodoo1.
Hope that helps a bit..

Cheers,
Ron
