What 'pathes' do I need for F1 2002

by David Mocna » Fri, 04 Oct 2002 13:24:28

I posted this under a different thread and got no response ... figured
that it was a bad heading choice so here it is again. If anyone can point
me in the right direction then I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi Guys,
I am in the process of getting F1 2002 running and I'm trying to get the
game to play well (as well as look well). I have already set the 'physics

rate' to full and made most of the contoller setup/changes recomended
here. Though, what else do I need for this game to play/feel good? Here's

a couple questions that I already have but if there's anything else that
I need then please let me know:

a) Can I switch the hands/steering wheel OFF? They annoy me and distract
me from driving.

b) Why do replays look so bad? By that I men that replay of my car doing
a lap looks like the car is a toy car*** on strings. Visually it
does not look remotely realistic and the car seems to move like it's
being pulled by invisible strings from above. Is there something I can do

to fix these as from inside the cokpit (ie. when driving) it does not
feel like that.

c) More on replays - there seems to be a 'detail popup' happening as the
car gets closes in the replays/ This looks pretty poor (IMHO) and I'd
like to somehow switch this so that it's on the maximum detail all the
time and hence have no 'detail popup' happening. Can I change/set this
somehow?

d) Do I need some kind of physics patch for the cars to be even more
realistic (not that I'm complaining (yet) as I've not played it enough).

e) Any good place where to download all the car textures with all the
Tobaco sponsors in place?

Thanks for any help in advance guys.

I didn't answer before cuz I didn't have all the answers so I was
hoping somebody else would fill it in.  Here is what I have

Getting the controllers configured is vital.  Spend some time just
testing those.  The wheel axis slider should be set to 50%, the setup
steering lock percentages should be reduced..from approx 20 degrees to
around 12 to 14 degrees.  Speed sensitivity can be set to zero.
Use dxtweek2 to zero out the deadzones in windows and make sure the
deadzones in the sim are zeroed out as well.
 Here's

don't know..quit watching your hands and watch the road..  :)  sorry just
kidding.   Try Racesim central or simbin.com for possible answers on their
forums.

Replays are the 2nd biggest weakness of the EA F1 series.  You get a
great TV style picture but no overhead views to check your lines.  What you
get with the replays is not so much a recording of what you drove, but a
recreation.  Some have said it's not very accurate.  I don't think there is
any fix for this.

There used to be a way to do that for the older sims, I don't know if it
is still effective with 2k2.  Try searching the forums at Racesim central.

If you have enabled the full rate physics, you are getting the best anyone
has at the moment.  There is a guy who has tweek the physics for F1 2k1 and
it's mods, but I don't know if he has worked on F1 2k2 yet.  Xibit-a or
something like that.  When the new GTR 2002 mod is released, you will
probably see the most intensive physics available.

Ralph Hummerich(sp?) has a very good carset.  I'm pretty sure there is a
link to it from F1relay.com  try there.

Hi,
you have to read this forum, there you will find all your answers.

http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~hg/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=23

And don't forget: Download 2k2 sounds v.1.0 from Hudson, it is
unbelieveable, how good this is. You hear all cars with their own sound and,
compared with in-car sounds from tv, its very realistic. A must d'l

And get the addon tracks, like jerez, brands hatch, donington etc,

Thanks guys,
All that was very helpfull ... looks like I am almost 'set' :-) The RH cars
look awesome and I'm just getting the sounds.

Though, I do have one more question - what settings should I be running
in-game for the game to 'feel' right (ie. like the cars responds to my
commands)? I was originally driving with everything OFF (ie. traction
control, steering-help, etc), but I think it feels much better with
traction-control on LOW and stability on HIGH. What settings are you guys
running?
