New ATI Catalysts?

Has anyone tried the new Catalyst 4.2? I.m just wondering if they cause any
problems. I guess I'm looking for a guinea pig.  ;-)

I installed them.  No chance to test yet.

I think the 4.1's were worth a bit of a performance increase, or at least it
felt like it.

The NR2003 problems were not resolved in 4.2.  It still says "a future
release".  It's been what, four already ?

We have had several people in our TPTCC league mention screen
blackouts with the 4.1's.  Car keeps driving but the screen blacks out.
Caused a *** first turn wreck at Sebring.  I think the ATI websites have
a utility that totally removes the old drivers, I wonder if these guys were
having file version conflicts.  Anyone else experienced problems with the
4.x ATI drivers?

This is usually where Achim Trensz jumps in and recommends the 3.7 Catalysts
for ME and the 3.9s for XP.  Achim?

Have I ever done that publicly? :)

Under ME I'm still using the 3.7, under W2k the absolute fps shown in
Lomac (the only game I play in W2k) is 1 or 2 fps lower with the 4.2
than with the 3.9, but the 4.2 are very smooth in the mountains where
for example the 3.7 get quite jerky.

So while the indicated fps is a tad lower with the 4.2, they're in the
end the better choice on my system under W2k.

I stand (or cringe) corrected...and if I've violated any NDAs, I humbly
apologize.

I haven't seen any problems with them yet in N3k3, if they're getting
blackouts then maybe their vid card is getting too hot or something. I've
had that happen before with an old card I had, video would lock up and the
sound and game would continue in the background.
