In addition, overall 3DMark score dropped from 8393 to 8252 on my system. So, I
went back to the old drivers.

In my case, also running an 8500LE I didn't see any improvement in
DirectX, but OpenGL seemed to behave better. The initial rate didn't
change much, but there was less of a decline in accidents and with
damaged cars on the track.
Outside of the game, the overall behavior of the new driver is quite
good. It seems stable, and other images are crisper.
