hows about setting a petition to get papyrus/sierra/havas interested in a
modern day F1 simulation?

worth the hassle?

GP3 is great, but id love to see what Papyrus could do (over EAsports
anyday)

Do Sierra own Papyrus????  I seem to remember INDY500 the sim comming from
Papyrus and EA.......

Has lots of potential but with a bulk of modern F1 sims coming this year and
most planning a long running series, I doubt many people would refuse a good
CART game..... sure as heel about time for one and papy seem to like this
type of market.

P.S. I am guessing that Papy are their own company but Sierra have the
rights to the gmaes or something like that.

Yes, and ever since that sad day, Papyrus has been as responsive as
Julius Caesar after the Ides of March.

Forget F1... it's beyond both driver and viewer satisfaction.

By the time they finish coding all this, We'll all have the 1Ghz processors
and 512Mb of RAM to enable us to play the game with anything like a good
framerate....With Voodoo 6 of course :-)

Don't know anything about graphics cards myself, but it seemed this thread
was calling for a bit of Lou.

I am continually stunned by the "need" for native rendition support.
That chipset is DEAD my friend.   Dead and Burried.  Roasted over hot
coals, turned, stirred, watered, and dead dead dead.
Any company that spends a DIME coding for the Rendition card is
throwing money away.
There are too many problems currently with D3d being used differently
by Matrox, Nvidia, 3dfx, and S3.  That alone will consume needless
programing funds.  OPengl will soon fade also as Microsoft has abandoned
merging it with it's future 3d language.  3dfx continues to sell but
it's glide language will soon become as obsolete as Redline for
Rendition.
If you want an updated CART sim, why and I repeat...WHY do you want to
saddle it with a video system that cannot begin to compete with current
offerings?
I truly enjoyed my S220 II but I sure don't miss the desktop hassles.
Everything else you mentioned sounds good and reasonable for an update,
but you truly have to realize that the boat has left the dock and
Rendition did not get on-board.
Now if the Micron folks who bought Rendition, could pony up a card
with scads of embedded chip memory and extremely high resolutions with
deep color resolutions, then I'd be the first to ask for ports to the
Rendition chipset.  But that ain't happening.  Did I mention the
Rendition chipset is dead yet?

My take on the whole Rendition thing - people want it because they have
Rendition cards (like me) but don't want to upgrade.  Also, if they continue
to use physics and graphics engines that have been used with Rendition
before, doesn't it seem like it would be very easy to code in Rendition
support???  Yes, the Rendition is a DEAD chipset, and not much of one at
that (I have to run reference drivers on my SII S220 to make it run D3d in
NASCAR3/NL...and it's very pixelated there for some reason beyond my
control).  My best advice:  Stop hounding Papy and scrounge $50 and go pick
up a V2 1000 at Fry's whenever they have them cheap.  (Fairly often
now...though it is after a rebate)  Besides, once you drop it in, you'll
realize that (especially in games supporting either Rendition or 3dFX) the
V2 is superior to the Rendition...I have two computers, one runs GPL on a
4mb Rendition, and the other runs it on a V2 1000.  The Rendition's only
advantage is that the framerate is a rock-solid 36 fps.  The V2, at higher
resolution and more detail, holds a quite-constant, but not-quite-rock solid
36 fps - a tradeoff I'm very much willing to make when recieving the much
better graphic quality!!  (BTW, the systems are otherwise almost identical -
both 64 MB RAM, one has a PII 466, other a Celery 450, and no that isn't a
mixup, they're overclocked :)

A shame it is too...there was a nice article in Autoweek this week about how
all of a sudden F1's having trouble finding feeder leagues, and how with the
new narrow, groove-tired cars it's harder for CART guys to move to F1...look
at Zanardi...

YEAH!!!!!

Chances are this is an easy one...however, IMO, not a vital one since any
missing ones could be hacked together by all of the more knowlegeable
people....

Would be very cool...

Once again, nice but prolly would be done by some people who have some
photos and are handy with Paint Shop Pro...

Would come with the track editor...

GPL physics would be awesome...N3 'physics' is really N2, but the graphic
engine is quite nice...

Isn't this covered under all cars?

OK, lay off the Rendition crap.  RREDLINE IS DEAD.  Rendition cards suck.  I
have one.  Get a fricking VOODOO2.

It's been in everything since ICR1, and prolly Indy500 too...

Would come with a GPL physics engine

Man you like to go over the same points many times...

Would come with GPL/N3 physics/graphics engine

*sigh* Would come with a GPL physics engine (with some tweaking)

Would come with a GPL physics engine

Do I have to say it again?
Would come with a GPL physics engine

WCWAGPLPE

That would be cool

What, so the PC hits a random number and BOOM goes your tire?  They aren't
all that random in real life...they almost always run over SOMETHING.

Would go with the debris...

Why?  It hardly happens in real life!!! #1) They run methanol - no visible
flames from that  #2) The only fires you do see are little tiny things when
someone's got engine or turbo problems...a kid with a lighter can make a
bigger fire in thirty seconds...

TIRE WALLS...would be AWESOME!!!

Nice...

Shouldn't be hard to IMPROVE, considering how crappy they all are :)

Not necessary...could be done by someone on the net...

Nice eye candy...do it if it isn't a resource hog...

More resource-hogging eye candy...

Another fricking rehash....

YET Another rehash on an already stated topic...

STILL another rehash...

Would come with GPL physics

Which would cause...

Which should be in there - they can change a whole race!!

More eye candy...

Don't know about the marks, but the flagmen should be simple...

Rehash...

Rehash...

Rehash, and I'm not going there....

Yeah, more realistic roadcourses in general (i.e. possible to accidentally
cut the track and get black flagged)

REHASH...

REHASH...

Eye candy...

NEEDED VERY BADLY!

Goes with redflags...can change an entire race...

They had this in ICR1, didn't they??  To some extent??
