Logitech Formula (GP Vs. FF) Wheels???

by Kyle Clement » Tue, 08 May 2001 11:17:24

Reviews have stated that the non FF version of the Formula series
driving wheel is much smoother in performance.

Anybody have any real user comments between the two?

Im very willing to live without FF...  I have it on my PS2 and rather
dislike FF while driving...  was nifty neato for about 20minutes then
I tried with FF turned off and got better times without FF. The WOW
factor has run out on FF for me.

Also is there any advantage to USB or Game Port connections for said
wheel?

I have the original FF Logitech wheel. The one that is red. I love it but
for a period of time my times were slower. You have to fight the wheel and
the track. That is what it is like in real life. Now that I am used to it. I
really like it.

Until you tried FF with Grand Prix Legends, Nascar 4, Nascar Heat, Viper
Racing or even Grand Prix 3, you most likely didn't see its full
potential yet. I've been playing with a FF wheel for about a year now
(wow, has it been that long?), and the immersion levels are much, much
higher. For example, I have a very uneasy feeling abot the front right
tyre in Nascar 4 when exiting a corner and feeling the wheel go
extremely light :).

I don't like FF in Nascar SIMS, especialy N4 due to the way it's implemented
at the Super Speedways.

However, on the other hand, N4 is kind of a bear without FF due to the
'realistic' pull-to-the-left.  It is *** on wheels with stiff
return-to-center springs or FF wheels that have FF turned off.

As good as a SIM  N4 is, it is apparant to me that not much thought went
into accomodating the many various types of wheel controllers that are in
use.

I love FF in Grand Prix Legends, Viper Racing and Porsche Unleashed.
I'm less impressed with Grand Prix 3.  The NASCAR sims seem to
overheat the wheel, as it sometimes goes limp in the middle of a race.

I don't regret the LWFF purchase one bit, but I'd consider a good
non-FF wheel next time.  I think it would be more precise.  I don't
think I'd enjoy the gear-driven wheels, like the Sidewinder or the new
LWFF GP.

I'm not thrilled with the 180-degree travel of the Logitech wheels.
Anyone compared it to a 270-degree wheel like the Sidewinder?
