Elsa have released drivers for the Geforce 3 Gladiac 920 based on Nvidia's
4:21.81 driver set

And finally F1 2001 works with a fairly up to date driver which I can keep
for all my other games - no need to keep switching

RESULTS
1600x1200x16bit colour noFSAA
all graphic detail at max

test day 50+ FPS
quick race 40-45 FPS

PROBLEMS and GLITCHES
1. My desktop has to match the resolution and colour depth to achieve
stability
2. Still appears to refresh at default BIOS rate (60hz) unless it is my
tired eyes :)
F1 2001 gives u refresh rate options on my 3DFx 5500 based computer
3. The mirrors only show the shadows of the cars following
4. In race the FPS occasionally drops to 21-29 FPS I suspect it could be
because of an incident somewhere else on the track

Still it's a big leap forward from the 12.90 drivers and light years ahead
my second computer using the 3DFx 5500

SPEC
Intel P4 1.8Ghz
ELSA Gladiac 920
512Mb RDRAM
Intel 850GB mobo

NOTE: Elsa's drivers based on Nvidia's 21.83 drivers are slower than the
21.81's and do not work for me with F1 2001

I haven't tried these new drivers yet, but think I may have an idea what is
causing the low framerates at times.
Try turning off broadcast overlays. It had a severe impact on framerates
with 1 set of drivers I tried.

PS, what are the rest of your system specs ?

I run an Abit KT7A (not RAID) with a TBird 1.2, 256MB Crucial PC 150 RAM, SB
Live 1024 and Elsa 920. I am having major stability problems with F1 2001,
can hardly manage 3 laps without being chucked back to desktop. I have the
434 VIA 4 in 1 drivers installed as well as the latest SB Live drivers.

This is exactly the time the framerate drops but...
How do u turn off the broadcast overlays?
The manual states it can be turned off under the heading 'Miscellaneous' but
I don't have that option in the game interface.

Under display setup, you have 3 icons at the bottom. It's the icon on the
right.

I've just installed the new drivers and driven over 20 laps with no sign of
a crash (well not a computer one anyway :) ) thanks for the tip !!

I get a small amount of stuttering now when there are a few cars around and
shadows only for cars in mirrors, but I can live with that until the patch
arrives.

The Miscellaneous option is located in the options menu.

Not looking too good now, while they are stable in F1 2001 (Elsa 21.81
drivers) the framerate has taken a bit of a hit and I get serious graphics
corruption when starting a quick race (very weird because it's fine when
starting a race in Grand Prix). In Unreal Tournament, I usually get an
average framerate of 90fps, with a maximum approaching 400, with the Elsa
21.81 drivers it drops to an average of 20 with a maximum of 30. So it looks
like I'll have to use F1 2001 on my old Athlon 750 with ATI Radeon (BTW, the
GF cards worked fine in that PC with the 12.90 drivers)
EA have some serious problems with their testing procedure on games.

I've not tried other sims since running F1-2001 but 3DMark 2001 gives the
ELSA 21.81 a score of approx 6800 which is about the same as the generic
21.85 drivers.
I found 'misc' BTW and since turning the overlays off the framerate is a
steady 38 -45 in races. No corruption anywhere (just the mirror prob.)
I did find that if my desktop was less than 1600x1200x16 the corruption
crept in. Weird. As I usually have my descktop at this res. it's not a
problem.
