NFS-SE with no CDROM?

Is there a way of running Need for Speed Special Edition without the
CDROM?

And before you ask, I'm NOT a pirate.  I bought the game, but found it
requires a CDROM to start the game.  Having a laptop computer with
limited internal space, I have to shut down, lift the keyboard, take
out the floppy drive and battery, take the floppy drive faceplate out,
put the battery back in, put the CDROM drive in, shut the keyboard,
lock it in place, and restart whenever I want to play NFS.. it takes a
lot of time and puts unnecessary wear on the contacts, which I would
like to avoid.

Blair,
Do a full install and the access of the CD will be limited to loading
tracks and videos.  This should speed things up a bit.  Beware tho',
that
to use the track editor or other people's tracks, you will also need to
install the misc grouping from the custom install area (this will load
the track files *.tri onto the HD).

You WILL still need the CD in the drive to play.  I guess this is just
EAs way of stopping PIRACY.

BTW...Your .sig is far too long.  4 lines is the usual accepted
tag on posts to Usenet.  If you had some funny comments in there
rather than a big word in ugly ASCII, I'd appreciate it more.
Your signature is many time longer than your actual post.

Jet (Geoff should write GP2 for 26 players via KALI!)

A quick search on Alta Vista would have turned up SpeedRacer's
Unofficial Need for Speed page, which explains how to run NFS
without the CD in the drive.

I have a file that allows the running of GP2 WITHOUT the CD in the
drive . You still need to have the CD to perform the initial install ,
but can run it after using this file.

 goto -  HTTP://www.ozemail.com.au/~smeggy

and pick the GP2 page.
