NFS-SE bites the big one!

by Jonathan Robinso » Mon, 05 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Thought I would blast my opinions of NFS-SE out here.
I have already lit EA's mailserver on fire with some of my mail.

NFS-SE has to be the worst mistake since the Hubble telescope.  They
managed to take an excellent game and destroy it in an upgrade.  First,
they charged owners of NFS $25 to get two new tracks and some in-game
music (DAMN! explanation later).  This is highway robbery.

When I got NFS-SE I learned that EA's product team had fallen into a
life of drug abuse before they released it.  The program has about a 50%
chance of success during install the first time for any given system.
If you do get the program to install, expect horrible frame rates.
(This is a standard feature of NFS-SE, new for '96!)

I ran into a problem with their joystick driver and the Ensoniq sound
card that made it impossible to play the in-game music without
incredible skipping.  I sent tech support several mails and only
received one response. I spent a lot of time tracing down the problem
and then I got shut down by the high-school drop-outs in their
tech-support department.  They asked me if I made a boot disk (DUH).
When I told them yes and gave them a detailed explanation, they got
scared and didn't answer.

I have torched EA in every form imaginable since they screwed me over
and I have never gotten anything from them.  EA's own chatboard is full
of hate mail (half of it is not even mine!) about NFS-SE.  I guess it
was the consumer's fault in assuming that the ridiculous excuse for a
software firm called EA would have actually tested this game before
release.  Silly, silly, game player.....

[some defence to EA snipped]

1. post your real name and address if you have the guts;
2. learn how to use the return key and restrict your post to <80 columns;
3. get a life.

NFS-SE is a rip-off and a major screw-up to an otherwise successful original.

To all those put off by this statement -

I think NFS Se is great and I've been having a hard time stopping
playing it. I've got it running under Dos on my 46 at home and under
Windows 95 on my P133 at work and didn't really have any problems.

We've also tried the network play at work and it's great - I
particularly applaud EA's decision that more than one person could
play it off the same CDROM.

I must say I agree, I had the original NFS and despite all of the negative
comments about SE, I've had no probs with it what so ever, I even installed
on my old 486DX-33 8megram to test the network option and I must say that it
was still playable and it install flawlessly. The new music is great, I can't
get one of the tracks out of my head! I congratulate EA on a fine game, but,
I must say that their message board is poorly maintained, it would be nice if
someone from EA would occassionally respond to the questions posted there.
That's my 2 cents.
