I have had the Nvidiot card for several months now, but just recently
I've seen blurry text especially on websites with smaller fonts.  I have to
admit I wasn't paying attention that much, but this seems to be a fairly
recent change.  (could be going blind...glasses are already thick enuf..)
But is there a setting on the nvidia drivers that sharpens the picture?
Wanna check the easy stuff first...

But is there a setting on the nvidia drivers that sharpens the picture?

You might want to check your Mipmap settings in the Advanced DirectX
settings Tab of your Nvidia properties.
Set these to a higher quality instead of a higher performance.... It
improves the picture and espacially text in DirectX environments.
It might improve in other application ....

Hm.. you have "smooth edges on fonts" on in Windows?

That setting only affects 3D graphics and does nothing to 2D.

Are you using WinXP? Do you have cleartype fonts on maybe?

Win98se...   I did have smooth edges set, but didn't seem too different
when I disabled it.

Couple of guesses - checked the monitor R/G/B alignment since getting the
GeForce? Degaussed it?

Check the connections between the card and the monitor, a bad contact will
reduce the frequency response and hence the definition of the display.

nVidia is famous of very bad 2D picture quality. Matrox is the best. Ati
cards are fair enough too... but nVidia just sucks.

Too bad, because nVidia is the way to go almost anywhere else but 2d...

This is why my next card will be something other than nVidia.  That and the
poor quality of the TV output as well.

I wait impatiently for reviews of the Matrox Parhelia :)

Dave,
I guess you wouldn't want to try throwing your old V5 back into the system
after the driver dance you had to do to get the nvidia card working? I was
just curious what your immediate impressions would be when doing a back to
back comparision (under admittedly unscientific conditions) between the 2d
of your current Ti200 (iirc) and your old V5.
Regards,
Robin

I have noticed this also after getting a GF3 card, but only when viewing
web pages and only when using Netscape. When I use Internet Explorer for
the same web page the text is perfectly clear so I don't think it's an
Nvidia issue. It's hopfully just a setting thing but I will continue to use
Netscape regardless. If you figure it out please let me know.  Don

and you're sure you aren't seeing antialiasing?  Microsoft calls it
Font Smoothing, I think.  no idea what netscape might call it.

Well I'm pretty happy with the Ti200.  For sure it's FSAA is weak
compared to the V5, but everywhere else it seems good now...What an
incredible hassle I had getting it going right tho...
I didn't seem to notice this fuzzy text stuff til recently, maybe I wasn't
paying attention, but any tiny font is smudged...like an erasor was lightly
rubbed across it...turning off the smooth edges made it worse...like the
parts of the letters weren't connected.
Been using MS IE 6+ for a long time...Netscape would cause lockups too
often.

Agree!. My old ATI rage fury 128card has SHARP picturequality in 2d. The
colors look faboulus.. and with my GF2mx,
it looks blurry, and the colors look lifeless.
