F1 2002 stutters - and a fix!

OK - thought I was all fixed up, then tried a wet race, and the damn
stutters were back.
Hmm - play with the graphics settings - no change.  Turn off FSAA, no
change.
What could it be? Seems like a texture swapping kinda pause - looked
in the Config.ini - theres a setting for "video memory".  Could be how
much the game allows itself to use (said 231, and I've got a 128mb
card), so I think maybe if I make it match the card, there'd be no
more AGP texture swapping - wrong!  At 128mb its even worse.  Hmm -
maybe it means how much AGP texture mem to pre-allocate so it doesn't
have to go to main mem - increased it to 384 and BINGO!  No stutters
in a wet Spa race :)!  Even with FSAA/max settings - now I've got to
try the Alpha mod again!

PS - now if I could only get rid of the damn XP deadzone...

That's interesting. On my system this is set to 0!

As for the XP deadzone, doesn't the latest version of Logi's DxTweak work
under XP?

Is Force Feedback available in F1 2002 please...?

Also is the missing polygons and jagged graphics down to my 9700 Pro or F1
2002...?

Is there a setting i can change to sort it out..?

FF is available, but it was disabled after installation. I think you can
enable it in F2002's controller setup screens, but there's also a setting
ForceFeedback in the [Controls] section of the .PLR file in my 'save'
directory, so maybe it can also be enabled there.

As for the graphics issues, I don't have any of that here on a GF4. Are you
using 16bit or 32bit for F1_2002? Because I read that in 16bit, the 9700
doesn't do AA, which could lead to jaggies of course.

What's your system specs?  I'll have to try 0 and see what it does
(maybe turn off all AGP texturing?).
DxTweak2 works under XP, but they admit that there's no way to make
deadzone settings stick under 2000/XP.  I *think* I've got it sorted
in F1-2002, but I haven't done extensive testing.  GPL is next.  I
already tried RC2000 and either XP or the drivers didn't get along -
worse framerate than 98, and an annoying delay at the beginning of
each stage before the controller started to work.  I'm doomed to
dual-boot ;)!

As far as I'm aware, the 50% split axis deadzone issue that existed in F1
2001 was fixed in F1 2002.  It's very obvious if there's a problem by
looking at the red bars in the joystick setup screen.  It may be possible
that if you've got a complex wheel & pedals configuration that the deadzone
problem may still cause problems.
