Changing video cards

Changing video cards

I am in the process of working my way through Colin McRae Rally.
My PC is using a voodoo1 card at the moment, but it's getting a
bit slow in some of the stages, particularly Australia with all the trees.
I am thinking of changing the card for a voodoo2 or 3, but I was wonderring
if there will be any problem with the game picking up where it leaves
off when the new card is installed - one of the game options is a choice of
primary
or secondary video card - so will it get "confused" if a saved game
thinks it should use a voodoo1 but finds a voodoo2 ?

What about any other games ?  Will they be OK, or do they not know/care ?

Thank you.

I don't have this game, but all games have to save game data in a file on
your hard drive. Look in the directories for that file(s) and backup them
up. Prehaps someone how has this game can name the exact files.

I have yet to see a game developer dumb enough to keep hardware
configuration data in the save game files.  It's usually kept in the
registry or, preferably, in seperate configuration files.  Some games will
start in software mode, so you'll have to tell them to use the new device.
Others will automatically detect the new device, and you won't have to do
anything except increase the resolution.

Can't speak for this game specifically, but most games save video, audio,
and control preferences in a separate file.  Saved games should not be
affected.
