F1 2002 wheel axis questions Haqsau??

by Dave Henri » Fri, 29 Mar 2002 02:45:04

  Several things here:
1st  I have a LWFF and a Thrustmaster Pro Digital 2.  I have both now
connected via the usb and both are configurable in N2002 and F1 2001.  But
if I use the pedals as a split axis in F1 they are EXTREMELY touchy...almost
the opposite of everyone elses split axis experience...like the whole range
of the pedal response is limited to the first 10% of pedal travel.  Not too
big a problem since I'm leaning toward single axis for F1 2001.
  But now my question.
I have the steering input at 50% and the steering lock at 12 degrees for
most tracks.  What should the percentages be for the throttle  slider?  If I
limit that to 50% does it restrict my throttle response?  i.e. would I
loose full effect of pressing the pedal to the floor?  If I'm using a single
axis for F1 would reducing the percentage to soften the brake also deaden
the throttle?
I'm pretty pleased with what I 'think' are the right settings, but
sometimes when I make a change I seem to loose top speed and I'm trying to
wrap my brain around this properly..
thanks

Dave;
IF I understand these functions correctly, the throttle, etc. slider
doesn't affect how much throttle is applied, so much as when.  I.e., at 50%,
you can mash the gas easier because the actual throttle input won't be so
sensitive.

I don't have ANY split axis problem (ie everyone doesn't have split axis
problems)

Neither with my old trusty red logitech (no retired) and update #1 nor my
lovely Momo with Update #1 and #2.

I run Win98SE, 6380RU2 Mobo, 411c wingman drivers.

However - I have found that with the 411c drivers I have to move the
pedals and wheel through full range when I get into windoze to get the
range of travel right. It seems to calibrate itself when you do this (I
don't have to go into the control panel or anything).

I don't use the wingman profiler either.

I test my range of travel coming out of the pits (with the pit limiter off
of course) using the telemetry thing from http://www.the-best.racesim.net/
in hotlap mode. (you can speed in the pits in this mode).

This sounds like what I get if I don't 'calibrate' the pedals.

I'm glad the other responders answered your questions because I don't
have a clue about the 10% pedal travel problem.  In combined or single
axis mode I am using 50% sensitivity for steering, throttle, and brake,
and I still get the full range of each.  The axis sensitivities are
really linearity controls, they don't change the range.  And it does
appear that even in single axis mode you can set the linearity of the
brake and throttle separately.  BTW if you want to have some fun with
the brakes get Turner's setup tool (link at simbin) and turn the brake
pressure in your favorite setup up to 100%.  You'll lock up more at low
speed until you get the feel of it, but you'll be able to use all of it
at high speed due to the extra downforce.  Just watch out, cuz you may
get teeth marks on your steering wheel the first few times.  ;o)

<opening mouth and inserting foot>  In combined axis mode both the
throttle and the brake are on the Y axis, and there is only one slider
to set the sensitivity of the Y axis, not two.  So in combined axis mode
you will have to use the same sensitivity for throttle as for brake.
But anyway I would still leave it at 50%.
