After getting GPL and trying most of the tracks out this weekend I have
alot of respect for the drivers from this era.  Is it just me or does it
seem as if the streets of Monaco are as wide as a sidewalk?  How about
trying to learn the 'Ring?  It is bad enough when you have to reset your
car, what if your life depended on it?  This is a rather humbling
experience.

I get pretty pissed when I have to reset.  Last night I had spit all over
my monitor from swearing so much.  My problem is that when I have time
off I like to have a beer or three, but I can't drive for sh#t when I do.

This weekend I got up early, downed some coffee and proceeded to beat all
my best times.  I'm gonna have to get up early more often :)

Guess I should be racing instead of writing right now...

Once I started driving GPL, I truly realized how much the modern F1
tracks suck.  I'd always heard the varios TV folk talk about it.  But now
that I've "been on" the old tracks in GPL, the circuits of the present
day seem like toys.

I was driving to work this morning, thinking how if I was in a '67 gp car
I'd be doing 120 on this narrow back road with trees everywhere.   I'll take
the simulated death thanks.

I've only kept up with racing in general for around seven years. GPL is my
first significant exposure to racing prior to the '90s. While I admire and
respect the drivers from earlier eras, I don't now whether to think them
courageous or insane. The first time I did laps at Monza and Spa in GPL, I
couldn't believe it. I've only ever known the modern incarnation of these
tracks. I was braking for chicanes that weren't there :)) The way drivers of
past days screamed around these blazing tracks, in cars that begged to fly
out of control at a split seconds notice, is amazing.

Yep, that's just it.  We'd need a 1/4 mile of runoff these days if the
tracks were anywhere near as fast.
