GPL: FF framerate hit

by Johan Foedere » Fri, 19 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,

Several people on this NG mentioned they are running GPL with FF enabled
without any major framerate hit. How is that possible? I have a PII 350
and with FF enabled it becomes nearly undrivable. Yesterday I went over
to my brother's to temporary steal his PIII 500 and even now FF makes
for horrible driving. And even though the framerate isn't too bad
(although 5FPS lower), the sound gets all twitchy and it just doesn't
feel right. Is there anything I'm missing here? I have installed the
3.02 version of the sidewinder software for my MSFF wheel and updated
GPL to 1.2. Is there more to be done?

Thanks fo any sugestions,
Johan.

i have a thrustmaster force gt and a pIII 450 with tnt card from creative.
If there is any drop in frame rate it must be litle cause i don't experience
it. It prob must be somethinng with the drivers for the ms wheel.

The Logitech uses USB so I haven't seen any framerate losses.
DTR did show problems in the demo.  But I haven't determined if
FF was the culprit.

I havent noticed much impact with FF enabled on my MSFF wheel. I have a

lap - does drop down to low 30's from time to time when in traffic.

Johan,

For starters, what graphics card are you using?

     I'm running a AMD K6-450 and a Voodoo3 3000. I get max frame rates with
all graphics on exept track/cars only in the mirrors.

Same here .. .  . except! the other other day I did a clean re-install of
win98 and when it came time to install DTR I didn't install DX 7.0 ( stayed
with 6.1 ). No FF slowdown. Just out of interest, and to be certain, I then
installed DX 7.0 and the drastic slowdown was back. I have since done
another re-install.
Cheers, Andrew

bak the FPS from 30fps to 15fps !!!!

I'm using that good old Voodoo 1. My graphics settings are: no dynamic
lighting or specular highlights, mirrors to track and cars only without
track texture, 5 sounds mixed and the detail bias set to somewhere
between the words 'detail' and 'bias'.

btw are you also using the Sidewinder wheel?
