Ti4800SE or 9500 Pro for N2003?

by Mar » Wed, 12 Mar 2003 00:36:06

Putting together a mid level system:
AMD 2400 XP
nForce2 mobo
512 Mb PC2100
etc

Looking for good bang-for-buck out of vidcard.  Would the DX9 features
on the 9500 Pro help with the DX9 N2003?  Or do I stick with the tried
and trusted GF4 Ti family?

An article in THG was saying that NASCAR 2003 used DX9 pixel shaders:

"As far as PS1.4 support in currently available games is concerned -
ATi has published the following list. Decide for yourself:

UT2003
Madden 2003
Tiger Woods 2003
Nascar 2003
NeverWinter Nights (actually OGL equivalent).
DOOM3 will have a path that will use the equivalent of PS1.4 as well.
(ATI was struck by the big snow storm and their dev-team was not
available in full strength. We look forward to receive a more detailed
list)"

Does this actually mean anything significant?  I ain't got a clue.

Decisions, decisions...

Regards,

Mark

Its true that the 9500 Pro is DX9 capable, but according to papyrus, NR2003 is only a DX8.1 title,
and officially that is all that is required to play it, DX9 is just a recommendation.

I'd get a 9500 Pro.  It's much much faster, cheaper, better FSAA/Ansio, and
supports DX9.

I'm not big on going latest, greatest, fastest, but I had a momentary
lapse of resolve while the wife wasn't looking.  Most I ever spent on
a vidcard was 180 - that was a Rendition card for N2!!  I just beat
my record.  I clicked the button next to the 9700 Pro 8-O.  Probably
not the best time to buy such a thing with beefier cards just around
the corner to drop prices, but, hey, if I waited around on those
grounds I'd never buy a damn thing.

Bye-bye 250...

Oh well.

Mark

I am REALLY pissed at Nvidia. :) Their newest card, the FX is so small
of an improvement that it doesn't even pass the 9700pro in some settings.
IF Nivdia had hit a home run with the FX it would have forced ATI to
immeadiately release thier 9900 pro and THAT would have resulted in
markedly reduced prices for the 96 & 97xx vidio cards.  Now they can sit on
thier 9900 cards until Nvidia gets the next generation of FX cards ready
for the street.

Still fighting the 9500 Pro. Have replaced the motherboard, the Pro,
updated the Bios, tried the card with another monitor, wouldn't light
that one either. Quizzing Intel, no answer yet. May try another power
supply. Don't know what's left. Sheeeesh!

If your motherboard has onboard video, you need to disable that in the
system bios.  Other than that...make sure you get rid of all the old
drivers first and choose just a simple standard pci vga video.  Then
install new card.  Are you making sure you plug the power cord from your
computers power supply into the slot on the 9500 pro? The plug should look
just like the power plugs for the hard drives and cdrom.
