I have serious problems with NR2003. Here is my setup:
P4 2.4GHz, 533MHz FSB
Asus P4PE-GL
2x512 MB PC2700
Hercules Prophet 9500 Pro
Catalyst 3.2 drivers (7.84 version), including ATI Control Panel
60GB Maxtor HD
Windows XP Home (French) including SP1 (did not have to install the SP
separately, it was already included in the installation CD)
DirectX 9 (the version that came with NR2003)
In NR2003, I get a blue screen (and have to reset) in the following
situations:
- in the replay, when i move from the***pit view to the following
view by pressing the 'C' key (this happens 90% of the time)
- in "Single Race" mode, when I click on the "Drive" button (10% of
the time)
- during a session in "Single Race" mode (except qualifying) (80% of
the time I'm not able to end a 20-minute session, and in general it
does it within a few minutes; the start of a race and when I enter or
leave pit road are critical moments)
I drive in***pit mode. The blue screen problem never occurs in
"Practice" mode.
This happens with both DirectX and OpenGL (1024x768)
Now, the computer has recently been upgraded (by me) from a P3 450MHz
with a Gigabyte motherboard and Win98.
When I first installed it, it would simply reboot every time I clicked
on the "Drive" button (only in "Single Race" mode) or moved from the
***pit view to another view in the replay.
After reinstalling WinXP and installing the Catalyst 3.2 drivers it
went away for a couple of weeks, then the blue screen problem
appeared.
Obviously, the computer runs like a charm in any other application,
including 3DMark2001 SE, where I get 11000 points. Mind you, I do not
play any other game at the moment.
Yesterday I reinstalled the drivers, DirectX, NR2003, uninstalled
ZoneAlarm, stopped the PCCillin antivirus to no avail.
Needless to say, there is nothing in the Event Viewer, and no hardware
conflicts.
The processor is not too hot (50 degrees C at the maximum), the
motherboard is not too hot (35 degrees C) and the Prophet's fan is
doing its job (and the expelled air is rather cold).
I'm pretty much stumped. I tried many DirectX settings, and I still
have the problem.
Has anyone seen something like this?
My guess is that it must be graphic-card related (or maybe
RAM-related, but that would not explain why it crashes in the replay).
Thanks for reading, guys. Any help (and I mean ANY help) will be very
welcome.
