Colin McRae 2.0 & lockups

I'm having problems with CMR 2.0 under Win Xp. It will start
and run fine through maybe 3 or 4 stages and then after the race ends
it will dump you back to the desktop. I've tried re-installing it and it did
not help. I tried two patched 1.05 & 1.09 but after installing those the
game
won't run at all. Comes up with an error message saying "wrong disk
installed"
So after uninstalling and reinstalling I'm back to the same problem. Any
Ideas??
System:

512mb ram
Visiontek GF4 Ti4600 (28.32 drivers)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

That's about it. Any help is appreciated.

What happens when you don't over-clock your system?  Do you get the same result?  Windows XP sometimes will do weird things when the intended operation of the hardware has been altered.

Chris,
Does the same either way. I clocked it back down to 1.6 and the same
thing happened. Has anybody tried these patches?
Thanks
Jim

Then it isn't the over-clocking doing it, Jim.  What happens if you just install the first patch, does it run okay?  Did you install the patches while you were in an Admin account, or do you run in one?  Without knowing, I'm just wondering if the patch install was done in an Admin account, while you're attempting to run the game as a Limited User.  Does your motherboard support your video card, and is it running at the correct setting?

Chris,
Don't run under Admin account. When i install either patch 1.05 or 1.09 I
get the same
message about the wrong disc being inseted. It may be a driver issue with
the 28.32 drivers
but so far everything else I've thrown at them have worked ok (
NR2002,Insane,F1 2001 etc.)
I tried again last night and got past on other level before it dumped me
back to the desktop.

On Windows XP you can "Roll Back" the video driver.  Have you tried doing that?  It will go back to whatever was on the system previous to 28.32.  If that doesn't work, try playing with the hardware acceleration on the video card a little.  I don't have the game (yet), so can't compare notes with you.
