Colin McRae Rally 2.0 - Should I buy now and will it play on XP?

by Gary Tayl » Sat, 18 May 2002 04:44:59

I've just recently started playing some racing games after a long time
off and went out and bought a FF wheel (Thrustmaster) and Rally Trophy
to get things started.
I had never owned a rally-type racing game before and I'm having a
blast with it.
Now from what I understand, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is the best rally
game out there and that the FF is wonderful. I also understand that
3.0 is in the works. So my question is: Should I go ahead and buy 2.0
now or wait it out for 3.0? And will I even be able to get 2.0 to work
with WinXP? I've read that 2.0 is not made to work with 2000/XP.

P.S. Any other game suggestions for someone who likes rally-type
racing games, in addition to the TOCA2, SCGT variety?
Thanks.

just fyi, you can get Colin McRae Rally 2.0 at www.gogamer.com for only
$12.90.  It is featured in their 48 hour sale so you'll have to hurry.

If you have any problem with it on XP, run it in Compatibility Mode, Gary.
Make sure you get and install any available updates (are there any?) before
running it the first time.

No need... CMR2 works just fine in XP.  If it doesn't then it's not XPs
fault.

I've run CMR2.0 in XP with the original Logitech FF Wheel, (not the new ***
one), and find that I have to turn off the Texture Effects in the controller
settings, otherwise the controller shakes ***ly during the race, and at
the end of the race/replay sessions, it pulls over to the left very hard.

Anyone seen this before?

Keith

Go get it. It very cheap and works fine on XP. Plus on modern hardware such
as GeForce 4 it looks great.

Have Fun

I downloaded and installed the original CMR2 demo (I should have
thought about that before) and it works fine in XP.
Can any online racing with CMR2 be found these days or is that long
gone?
