Colin McRae Rally PC Lockups

by SCadda » Mon, 19 Oct 1998 04:00:00

My brother recently bought CMR and he is experiencing lockups. He has the
latest Voodoo2 Drivers for his Creative Labs Voodoo 2 card (Voodoo2 Direct X
2.17) and is using Direct X 6.

Everytime he finishes the 6 tracks in a Country, it lets him save etc, but when
he hits 'continue', the CONGRATULATIONS screen comes up, then the monitor goes
blank and clicks (ie. as if refresh rate is being changed) then the
CONGRATULATIONS screen appears again. This keeps going on and on and the only
way to stop it is to 'ALT TAB' to win95 and then CTRL ALT DEL to close CMR.
Whilst this is just a minor annoyance when finishing each round (and no big
deal because it allows him to save and then come back and reload next time he
runs the game up), he just finished and won the intermediate championship today
and was thinking that would allow him to access Expert mode and the additional
cars - WRONG. The lockup at the CONGRATS screen seems to prevent the win from
being registered properly so he is endlessly stuck in Intermediate.

I am thinking of buying the game too, but he and I have the same PC setups so I
am worried that I will have the same problem. Is there a cheat or other way to
enable expert mode (eg. by using another persons saved game file from the first
round of a championship in expert mode? using another persons config file?)?

If anyone can help out it will be appreciated (my Brother will be grateful that
he can play the Expert mode and I will be rushing out to buy the game myself)?
I must admit, I'm not overly keen on the concept of having to earn extra cars
and tracks - but willing to do it to unleash the full potential of a game - but
I am loathe to buy a game that will never allow me to access all it's tracks
and cars (ie. - due to the locking up I described).

Thanks,

Scott
