Field size (as it relates to CPU) in CPR?

by John Courtn » Thu, 20 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Hi,
I haven't bought CPR yet, (I heard it has only shipped in the US,
is it available in Canada yet?) but I have tried the demo.  I remember
eading that initial field size is set depending on your CPU.  Has
anyone who has the full version of CPR and a P120 tried to run it with
a full field of cars?  With 26 cars does it make the game too choppy?
(there must be a lot of calculations involved with keeping track of 26
cars, especially if they each have moving suspension, etc).

On a totally different note, are the rumours I'am hearing about a
track editor true?  I would defently pick up this sim if a track
editor is being released for it! (and if the patch is good)  Maybe I
can build that 4 mile super speedway I've always wanted!

Later,
John

In a perfect world where money wasn't an issue! :) Microsoft could
have a contest to see who could build the best track, and then
contract a compnay to build it!

As you probably saw, Dean CART Team (that's his full legal
name, I understand) confirmed the track editor will be out
soon...

As for me, I've always wanted to build about a 3 mile
"Super Road Course" with high banked "Super S's" and
perhaps a double carousel (sp?)... If it works out well,
maybe Microsoft will sponsor me building the real thing
someday?

I want to build my "home" track, Mosport, former site of the
Canadian Grand Prix.

My actual full name is "Dean CART Team F'tang F'tang Ole Biscuit-Barrel"
(note the hyphenation).

And as for MS sponsoring you to build a real 3 mile super road course ... er
... I think it's
great that you have a dream.

The track editor is coming next week (hopefully) and you can see a preview
of the "CPR Texture Tool"
at the APEX - it basically allow you to edit all the car texture sets and
use them as your defaults.

It has been so noted and recorded for future reference!

Hey, if we can't dream, we can't live...

How about a much cheaper alternative then? When are we going
to see a Microsoft sponsored CART car making laps?!? It's only
natural that it happens... it's a win-win situation... people see the
car on the track (and the accompanying demo in the merchandising
area) and they want to buy the game so they can drive their "home
track(s)"... then, they play the other tracks and want to go to
those races... then, they see the MS car out there, and think,
"Hey, that Microsoft is a great company... I think I'll ditch my ol'
Mac and/or OS/2 running computer and get a new one that comes
with Win95/Win98!!"

Well, Microsoft already runs (I think) a 2 car Formula Atlantic
team.  There's a few computer-oriented cars out there...Papyrus
has one, along with Thrustmaster (might be the same car); Corel
also.  There's a couple of others..I have pictures somewhere, but
I don't know where they are..gonna have to dig them out.

For the kind of money Micro$oft makes, they could probably buy
the CART series, all the teams, all the tracks, and get change
from their dollar.  Then they could change all the sponsorships
to their products...SCARY....here comes the Word car..the Excel
car...the NT4 car...and in last place, the Win 95 car (it's all
bogged down with DX5 and D3D, and a 16-bit pop-off valve).

And then there's Steve Jobs in the All American Apple cars, shaking
his***and screaming "we're coming to get YOU!"
