FIELD SIZE (NUMBER OF OPPONENTS)?

OK, I've read the included readme about increasing the field size for
the individual tracks.  However, if you look at the list, a few of the
tracks are listed wrong.  Darlington, Michigan, N Wilkesboro, Pocono,
and Rockingham are already at their maximum size.  If you look at the
track.txt files, you'll see that the number of cars is 1 more than what
is listed as the maximum in the readme.  This is due to the pacecar,
because with a full field of 39 cars the number in the track.txt file
is actually 40.  If you change the txt files to 39 (as per the readme)
you will only get 37 opponents, you, and the pacecar.  I assumed by
this logic that you could then add 1 to the rest of the maximum
listings (change the taladega.txt to have 40 giving you 38 opponents,
you, and the pacecar).  Unfortunately bad things happen when you do
this (cars going through the pit wall onto the track and other neat
stuff).

Why is it that those tracks I listed above work with the cars set at 1
more than the maximum allowed by the readme?

The readme.txt file did not provide information about adding the 1 for
the Pace Car.  I didn't mess with those that were already set to the
maximum.  However, I did overlook that 3 of the tracks have extra
Directories for the Night races.  You do need to update these also if
you wish to run with the maximum number of opponents.

Yes you need to make the changes to both versions, as the day and night
races are effectively at different tracks.

OK, I admit I am an absolute moron.  I forgot that had turned on
word-wrap in my text editor.  I have it configured to insert a carriage
return at column 80 (I had a reason for it at one point, but I've
forgotten why).  Anyway, this was screwing with the long PIT lines in
the track.txt files.  After fixing this, I got all the tracks working
correctly with the maximum number of cars.  If you're going to do this,
yes you do need to add one to all of the tracks that aren't already at
their Max size (Darlington, Michigan, N Wilkesboro, Pocono, and
Rockingham don't need any modifications) to account for the pacecar.

Ahem, gentlemen.  Did y'all find out how to increase the Entry List
size to fill the extra slots at certain tracks?  This is a rather
crucial bit of information to know before change the track pit size.
(Yes, I do intend to do it, in time).

Um, what are you talking about?  The changes that you make in the
track.txt file (as directed in the readme.txt) increase both the
maximum number of cars in the active field for each track and the
number of pit stalls.  You don't need any other changes to race against
the maximum field.
