GPL and NVidia Riva TNT2 model 64?

by Hora.. » Sun, 12 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I 've downloaded the GPL demo from Sierra and I was quite shocked to
see that the game performed very badly on my Athlon 600, equiped with
a NVidia Riva TNT2 model 64 (32Mb) and DirectX 7.0a. The game runs
like if my computer was an old PC XT 4.77 mHz...

Since the demo is optimized only for 3Dfx and Rendition Verite, I was
forced to use the "software option", but nevertheless about one frame
per second on an Athlon 600 is a little difficult to believe.

However, the demo is quite old and I was wondering if the retail game
was supporting more graphic cards,  like NVidia.

Is there someone here who has GPL and gets a good performance with a
NVidia Riva TNT2 64? Any hints?

Thanks,

Francois Bertin

Forget the demo.  It is a disatster for non-3DFX and rendition owners.
The full version supports OpenGL and runs great on TNT cards with the OpenGL
patch available from Papyrus.
If you scan this NG you will find all the info you need.

GPL and NVidia Riva TNT2 model 64?

Hello,

figured out that the game hates the OpenGL drivers higher than the
2.40's.  I tried the latest Creative drivers and my framerate dropped to
less than 1 fps, yuck.  When I reinstalled the Creative 2.08's it worked
fine again.  If you are using the 3.xx drivers and want to keep them on
your machine you can just put the 2.08 or 2.40 version "nvOpenGL.dll"
file in your GPL folder and it will use that file just for GPL.  Your
other games will use the 3.xx OpenGL driver still.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, Charlie. Where can I get the OpenGL drivers?
Are they available on the Riva web site? As for the patch, I suppose
I can get it on the Papyrus (or Sierra) site.

Oh Lord!  Just about everything imaginable.  Number of clutch packs in
limited slip diff.  Accellerate and Coast ramp angles, too.  Each gear
ratio.  Diff ratio.  Asymetrical chassis setup.  Jounce/Rebound,
bumpstop height, ride height, spring rate, you name it.
