Gpx Patches and saved games?

The GpX patches are great, and have added enough to GP3 for me to
actually want to drive the thing for a bit ;).
I actually want to do a full championship season, but it seems that as
soon as I load a saved game, the GPx patch is disabled.  Is this just
the nature of the patch, that loading a game overides the hacks that
make the changes possible?  Anyone have a way around this?
