The problem is with nascar racing 2
I have a Microsoft ff wheel and am having trouble calibrating the wheel in
the game.
when i hit joystick calibration the window for the calibration sequence
appears then disappears
without giving me a chance to run the calibration routine
i have been in contact with sierra and they tried to help but none of their
suggestions worked
they consisted of ideas like turn off the forces in the activator and to
disable the
sidewinder activator  altogether
i have the most up to date software, I know that Nascar2 does not support
force feedback but i still should be able to use it in this game
i have indyca2 and it works fine i also run gpl with no problem
any ideas?

Thanks
Robocat

I have heard rumors of it working for a few people, but the over all
concensus is that most FF wheels wont work AT ALL with Dos games. Again,
that is just what Ive heard. There are some lucky folks Ive "heard" of that
claim to have it work, but most of what I heard is NO DICE for N2.
Wish ya luck with it.

How did you make that work? From my understanding, the MS FF wheel does not
work at all with dos games because it is a digital controller. Apparently,
it either works or doesn't work with any particular system. Not much a guy
can do to correct it.

That's why I returned mine; there's NO way I'm going without Nascar
Racing.  'Course, right after I returned it, NR99 came out and it's Win95
native...

They DO work well with DOS games, but N2 is an exception (AFAIK it
uses some sort of optimized routines to read the joystick port).
GP2 or Rally Racing 97 e.g. work fine with my Saitek R4 FF (in a DOS
box under windows).

The MSFFW, and most if not all other Digital Wheels, are not compatible
with N2.

N2 will not work with any digital device.

Sorry :(

From what I understand, the joystick driver with N2 is highly
optimized/modified/whatever to prevent problems with latency during
on-line racing on TEN.

Since TEN hosts the fully Nascar Santioned NROS, I guess they were
trying to deal with latency in the best way possible.

It's unfortunate the 'broke' it as far as digital devices go in the
process....

It's a shame, because the best use I could get out of my MSFFW (dropping
the FF part, of course) is on NROS!

Indy Car II has a Windows 95 EXE as well as a DOS exe.  He is running
the Windows EXE.  The input goes thru DirectX, and then to the game.

If you run NROS or any other multiplayer, you would have still been
screwed.  Both of these require the same DOS exe as N2.  There is no
multiplayer in the Win EXE.

That really sucks, and it's probably the #1 thing that upsets people
about N1999.  The box implies otherwise...

The NROS 'Feature' of N1999 is none other than a slightly stripped down
Install of Nascar Racing 2, DOS Edition.

I have had no problem running indycar2 or gpl with my sidewinder ff wheel
Nascar is the only game i have had a problem running with the digital wheel.
