MS FF wheel & N2002 - have to jump thru hoops to work...

by Phanto » Sun, 31 Mar 2002 13:31:20

I just got a MS FF Wheel (USB), but I notice that in order for FF to work, I
have to alt+tab, change the wheel scheme to a different game, hit apply, go
back in to configuration, and change back to my N2002 scheme, hot apply then
ok. Alt+tab back to N2002.

If I don't do this, the only FF I get is centering. Does anyone have a fix
for this? Using XP home, 256 MB ram, tons of free drive space. Completely
defragged.

Thanks

Brian

FWIW

I have the MSFF USB 4.0 and XP Home and I do not have to do anything to
have FF work. I just choose my settings in the game controllers control
panel, I saved this as "Nascar", and everytime I boot my saved settings
are still there and everything is just fine. I never do anything but
plug the wheel in a start Nascar, or 4x4 Evo2.

I also have a 4x4Evo settings saved in the control panel, for when I
play that game, though most times I just play Evo with the Nascar
setting. The only difference between the two is a quicker steering
setting for Evo.

Hmm...Maybe I should unplug it and then plug it back in every time I want to
use it.

Even if the wheel is plugged in when the machine is turned on I am ok. I
have also tried this with the machine coming out of standby. When the
machine goes into standby the wheel shuts off and wakes up when the
machine wakes up.

Could be also that something is corrupt in the game controller files.  Write down whatever profile settings your might be using (don't save the files).  Remove the wheel physically from the system, delete it out of Game Controllers in Control Panel and reboot.  Make sure you enable the FF with the proper button on the wheel when it powers up, and install the version 4.0 software when the system identifies the wheel.  If you get a warning the software is only for Windows 2000, disregard and continue.  Reconfigure your profiles, and you should be set.
